Join 1,500 athletes in the 9th Annual Tri Indy Triathlon and Duathlon! Utilizing the picturesque canal of Downtown Indianapolis and the streets traversing the city's cultural and historic landmarks, Tri Indy will once again offer participants a challenging and memorable course. Tri Indy will consist of an Olympic Distance (1500 meter swim, 40K bike and 10K run) a Sprint Distance (500 meter swim, 20K bike, 5K run) and a Short distance Duathlon (2 mile run, 20K bike and 5K run). There is also a relay division for the Olympic distance (2 or 3 person).
Celebration Plaza in the heart of White River State Park will offer a beautiful setting for the transition area. This large grassy area is only steps from the swim exit and provides a great location to start and finish each leg of the triathlon and duathlon.
The first run of the Duathlon will complete 2 miles of the run course. (See course map under the "Run" section below).
The swim portion will take place in the White River State Park Canal. The Canal is about 40 feet wide and 4 feet deep. Both Olympic and Sprint distance events will be a point to point swim. Faster swimmers will start first with slower swimmers going last. There will be an Open division for the Olympic distance that will start first. If you start in the Open division, you will be competing for the overall awards and will be ineligible for age group awards. After the Open division starts, swimmers will start in 2 second intervals. The sprint distance event will not begin until the Olympic distance swimmers have finished, this will be at approximately 8:30am.
Ride through a scenic and fairly flat 12.5 mile loop (Olympic distance will complete two loops). The course will take you through downtown streets, along White River and Riverside Parkway, and around parts of the IUPUI campus. Volunteer and police protection will be provided throughout the entire course.
This fast, flat and scenic course will take you alongside White River, up to 10th Street, and then back along the east of the river. The distance of the course is 3.1 miles (Olympic distance will complete 2 loops). There will be a water and Gatorade station at every mile.
