Welcome to the 2016 Falmouth Triathlon. Get ready for one of the most picturesque venues and longest running triathlons events New England has to offer. The swim takes place in the warm waters off Surf Drive Beach. The bike course hugs the coastline before a short climb to the Nobska Lighthouse, then it's back to the beach on the shaded Woods Hole Road. The run course heads out on the Shining Sea Bike Path for some of the most magnificent views of magical Martha's Vineyard.
The swim course is rectangular shaped, with the swimmers traveling in a counter-clockwise direction. Participants will start with their swim wave waist deep in the water. Keeping all the large orange buoys on left hand side athletes will swim in a counter-clockwise direction. We'll have plenty of lifeguards and volunteers to keep athletes safe in the water.
The bike course a gently rolling course with breathtaking views of Martha's Vineyard and the surrounding areas. The course starts out with athletes riding right along the coastline as the pass Nobska Lighthouse, then it's onto a windy, wooded, and scenic segment that takes athletes to Woods Hole Rd. Once on Woods Hole athletes will cruise on this gentle downhill all the way back to Surf Drive Beach. This is truly one of the most scenic course around!
The run course is an out and back course that starts out with athletes running along the scenic coastline. Just past the one-mile mark athletes will take a turn onto the Shining Sea Bike Path. The ocean will be 10 feet off to your side and runners will have direct views of Nobska Light House and Martha's Vineyard! Aid Stations will be located right as athletes leave transition, then another one at the 1 and 2 mile marks.
Directions to the Falmouth Triathlon from Boston: At the Route 3/Route 128 split in Braintree, take Route 3 South, 42 miles towards the Sagamore Bridge. Before the Bridge, bear right onto Exit 1-A (Route 6 West/ Buzzards Bay/ Falmouth). Follow Cape Cod Canal (on left) 4 miles to/over the Bourne Bridge. Over the bridge, take Route 28 South 15 miles to Falmouth center (Route 28 is Main Street in the center). On Main Street turn right on Shore Street (Barbo's Furniture on right... you've gone too far if you pass White Hen Pantry on left)... and follow just 1/2 mile to its end to Surf Drive Beach. 2 hours from Boston.
