5430 Sports, founded in Boulder, CO, is proud to present the first EVER open water swim in Tucson, AZ ... and, bring its brand of triathlon events to the Southwest. Along with a safe, high quality race, put on by a Certified USAT Level 2 Race Director, and complete with Race Officials, the weekend will also have a complete Health, Wellness, and Fitness Expo. Great swag, t-shirt, finisher's medal, awards, and post-race food! Come experience 5430 Sports and the Inaugural 5430 TriZona Triathlon!
The 750 meter swim will be one loop. Kennedy Lake water temperatures should be in the mid to upper 60's; thus, wetsuits will be allowed. The bike course starts out flat, then a long gentle climb, and culminates with a fast downhill descent. The run is gently rolling and flat. The course is great for beginners, as well as experienced triathletes.
From Phoenix, or South of Tucson: Take I-10 to Exit 260 onto I-19 toward Nogales. Take Exit 99 for Ajo Way, turning right onto W. Ajo Way. Go 1.4 miles and turn right onto S. La Cholla Blvd. The Park will be on your right.
From The Race Director: The 5430 TriZona Triathlon, scheduled for April 27, has been cancelled. You can only imagine how difficult and disappointing this decision is; however, with an extremely low number of entries, the numbers do not come close to working. Our goal was to provide a significant, first ever open water swim triathlon in Tucson; however, for now, it is simply not feasible. Monday, March 17, was a key day to order all of the goodies for the event (finisher medals, finisher shirts, and other surprises), and we could simply not do it.
We will continue to promote and work on the health, wellness, and fitness of the wonderful community we know as Tucson. There is so, so much opportunity there! In the meantime, our most humble and sincere apologies. Yours in spirit and health, barry & jodee.
