The RattleSnake is a tough but challenging course that has a newbie catagory. Wonderful volunteers, great food, excellent DJ, time trial start swim, individual bike rack slots so you have space for your towel. This event always sells out and has just been voted by Triathlete Magazine, one of the greenest races in America.

Course Information:

Swim is a two loop swim in the pristine waters of Aurora Reservoir and has a sandy beach. The water for Aurora Reservoir is piped from the mountains thus is much clearer and cleaner than other local lakes. Water temperatures are a bit cooler than other lakes so wetsuits are always a good idea. Water temperatures run between 67 to 72 degrees race morning. There is a yellow floating rope dividing the two loop swim and lots of kayakers help racers keep on course and provide that safety margin for everyone.

Bike is an out and back on the challenging roller hills east of the park on Quincy Rd. There is one dog leg early in the race to the far park beach where they scuba dive and fish but otherwise it's out about 11 miles east on Quincy. You will see overall an elevation change of 1250 feet with uphills and descents over the rolling hills. Wonderful front range views the entire course.

Run is an out and back on the park lake trail with no road crossovers. It's paved but jump on the shoulder dirt if you want a soft surface. Aid stations every mile.

Directions:

East of Denver on Quincy ave, which is about 7-8 miles south of I-70 on E-470. Take the Quincy exit and turn east for 2 miles. Then south into the park.

Other Info:

Every year we look for a new meaningful finisher medal. Last year it was blessed Chinese medal amulets, the year before arrowheads blessed by Red Thunder a Native American Medicine Man. The year before that special pendants from Thailand that had been blessed in a Monastery. What will it be in 2010? We can't tell you, becuase you have to finish the race to find out..
