The China Peak Sprint Triathlon will have one mass start at 8:30 am.
Each swimmer will receive a numbered swim gear bag and a brightly colored swim cap. Please wear the swim cap you are given. After completing the swim you must place any of your swim gear: wetsuit, goggles, towel, swim cap, etc in your numbered swim gear bag before starting your bike. All of the numbered swim gear bags will be transported to the finish line after the race. Athletes can pick up their numbered swim gear bag at the finish line.
Bike Course - The China Peak Sprint Triathlon 12 mile bike course is a point-to-point course turning left on Huntington Lake Road out of the boat launch parking lot. Riders will then stay on Huntington Lake Road approximately 5 miles until the turn-around point at the dam. After the turn-around point riders will return on Huntington Lake Road past the Huntington Lake boat launch and then make a right hand turn onto Highway 168. Riders will continue on Highway 168 for approximately 2.5 miles and then turn left into China Peak Mountain Resort. Traffic control will be at this point to direct riders into the second transition area: T2.We have placed astro-turf carpet at the swim exit for better footing exiting the water. After exiting the swim you will follow the cones to the transition area located adjacent to the lake. If you need to change, please use the restroom located between the swim exit and the transition area.
The roads will not be closed to traffic. You must maintain at least THREE bike lengths at all times behind the rider in front of you, and you MUST ride single file while on the roads. Failure to do so will result in a drafting penalty or disqualification. Crossing the centerline at ANY time will also result in disqualification. Traffic has the right-of-way on the road so ride CAREFULLY. ALL athletes are required to wear an approved bicycle helmet during the entire bike course. Athletes will NOT be allowed to proceed on the bike course without a helmet. The helmet must be securely fastened the entire time you are on your bike. Failure to do so will result in disqualification. Headphones are not allowed on the bike course.
The Bike course will NOT have an aid station. There will be bike support and water available at the turn-around point on the bike course for riders stopping and dismounting off the course.
Upon entering China Peak Mountain Resort from Highway 168 you will enter T2 and rack your bike in the location you have placed your run gear. You will then exit the transition area at the opposite end from the entrance and proceed up stairs over the bridge to start the run course.
Run Course - The China Peak Sprint Triathlon 3 mile run course is a three-loop course running entirely on the China Peak Mountain Resort grounds. The course will exit the far end of T2 and climb up stairs to cross the first of four bridges over Big Creek that are on the course. The course will start with an uphill climb section along the mountain on dirt trails, then return downhill and through the ski area over the next three bridges and back towards the finish line/transition area. Each runner must complete three laps on the run course. After completing your first lap you will be directed to stay left for your second and third laps. You will be directed right, into the finish chute, after completing your third lap.
There will be two aid stations available to runners on each one-mile lap of the run course. These will have ice cold water, electrolyte beverage, energy gels and other fuels. Headphones are allowed on the run.
