Carsten Hahn participated in several swimming championships in South Westphalia and West Germany and became multiple South Westphalian and West German champion. As a pupil he was a member of the junior talent squad. After finishing his activity as a swimmer, in 2000, when he was preparing for the Ironman Lanzarote, he set his 1500m best time of 17min 24sec in the speciality course swimming during his sports studies. In athletics Carsten Hahn still holds several club records (as of 2005). Carsten Hahn competed in his first triathlon in 1987 and participated in one of the first German Championships for youth athletes in 1992. He has remained true to triathlon to this day. In addition, he cycled races for training purposes, usually leaving some of the specialists in the C-Class behind him. In 2016 after 5 months of training he finished a 220k training ride, the tourversion od Amstel Gold Race (245km) and the Tourversion of Liege-Bastogne-Liege (278km) on three following weekends.

Carsten Hahn worked as a trainer for a triathlon club from 1997-2005, where he was responsible for the coordination of all adult training activities. In this context, Carsten Hahn introduced and implemented the concept of an individual training plan. Later followed the extension to the implementation of lactate diagnostics within the association. In 2004, all of the athletes who had prepared for a marathon or an Ironman set new personal best times.

Carsten Hahn himself was also successful as an athlete, whereby the most important successes were realized through self-compiled training programs.
