The club was started in December 2021, when the founding student athletes were asked if they'd be interested in doing a triathlon. They thought it would be exciting to do and with some research soon learned that triathlons are a heavily white-dominated sport, and as three young women of color, they decided they would like to see changes made. They were inspired by Sika Henry, the first Black female professional triathlete, and sought to empower other Black women to join the sport and they felt it could start with them.
