  • The mission of Faith in Action Caregivers, Inc.T is to support the independent living of older adults and people with disabilities in Ohio, Marshall and Belmont Counties. The organization is a 501 (c) 3 tax exempt organization and is incorporated in the State of West Virginia. Faith in Action Caregivers, Inc. is registered as a charitable organization with the West Virginia Secretary of State and the Ohio Attorney General.
  • Course Information:

    2009 Triathlon Race Course

    Swim:
  • The 400 meter swim (16 lengths or 8 laps) leg will be in the indoor pool at the McDonough Center on the WJU campus.

    Bike:
  • The 25K course will exit WJU onto Currie Drive, turn left onto Washington Avenue, right onto Route 40 East (National Road), travel east approximately 2 miles to Lumber Avenue and continue along Lumber Avenue to the Shilling Bridge.
  • Then turn left into the Elm Grove Crossing Mall and continue through the parking lot to Krause Drive.
  • Turn right onto Krause Drive and then left onto Route 40 East. Follow Route 40 and make a right turn onto Middle Creek Road for about 3 miles to the turnaround at Union Hill Road.
  • The same route is followed back to campus.

    Run:
  • The 5K run (3 laps) will take place on the cross country trail on the WJU campus and finish with a partial lap on the track.

    2009 Duathlon Race Course

    Run:
  • The 3K run begins at the Transition area and exits the campus on Currie Drive.
  • Runners turn right onto Washington Avenue and proceed to the main WJU entrance. At the top of the hill runners turn right at the Robert C. Byrd NTTC (Parking B) and follow the road into Parking I and past the Acker Science Center. Then run down the hill in front of Ignatius Hall.
  • At the bottom of the hill turn left onto Ignatian Way and follow the road past the stadium to the Parking D (Administration Parking) in front of the John and Mary McShane Admissions Center.
  • Run through the parking lot and enter the trail behind the stadium track and tennis courts and follow the path to the Transition Area. DO NOT USE THE CROSS COUNTRY TRAIL ON THIS LEG OF THE RACE.

    Bike:
  • The 25K course will exit WJU onto Currie Drive, turn left onto Washington Avenue, right onto Route 40 East (National Road), travel east approximately 2 miles to Lumber Avenue and continue along Lumber Avenue to the Shilling Bridge.     More Race Details:
  • Check-in and Pool Warm-up will be from 6:00 a.m to 7:00 a.m. at the McDonough Center.
  • There will be no check-in after 7:00 a.m.
  • All participants must sign the USAT waiver at the time of check-in.
  • To read the waiver prior to race day, visit www.usatriathlon.org or contact Faith in Action Caregivers at 304-243-5420.
  • All athletes must present a photo ID at the time of check-in. No ID, No Race, No Exceptions.
  • Athletes under age 18 must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian with a photo ID.
  • A mandatory pre-race meeting for all athletes begins at 7:15 a.m. in the lobby of the McDonough Center.
  • Helmets are required on the bike course.
  • No drafting is permitted on the bike course.
  • Refreshments are available throughout the race for all participants, spectators and volunteers.
  • Child care is not available on the day of the race.
  • Awards will be presented after the race.
  • Professional timing services provided by George Frazier.
  • Athletes can compete in age group divisions of Under Age 20 and then in five-year increments.
  • Athletes can also compete in weight categories, individual clergy categories or on teams.
  • No headphones are permitted during any part of the race.

    Triathlon Only:
  • The Triathlon begins at 7:30 a.m. with the first wave of the swim event.
  • Wet suits are permitted in the pool.
  • Waves begin every 12 minutes with the slowest estimated overall time in the first wave.
  • Wave assignments cannot be changed on race day.

    Duathlon Only:
  • The duathlon begins at 7:45 a.m. with a group start outside the transition area.

    Note:
  • Faith in Action Caregivers, Inc. reserves the right to change the course of the race prior to the start of the race due to unexpected weather conditions, traffic control problems or other situations that may affect the safety of the participants, spectators and volunteers.
  • Any changes will be announced at the pre-race meeting at 7:15 a.m. on race day.

    Transfer Policy:
  • Athletes may request a refund of paid registration fees prior to the start of the race with documentation of any injury, illness or family situation that prevents participation in the race.
  • Athletes may request that fees paid be held and transferred to next years race if they are unable to participate in the event.
  • If an event is not held the following year, the registration fee will be refunded.
  • Athletes may choose to transfer paid registration fees to another athlete prior to the close of registration for the event.
  • Fees may not be transferred to another athlete after the close of registration, but refunds may be requested according to the policy.

    Volunteers Needed:
  • Volunteers are needed to help on the day of the race with traffic control.
  • All volunteers must be at least 18 years old.

    Awards:
  • All finishers will receive a medal.
  • Trophies will be awarded to the top three overall male and female finishers.
  • Trophies will also be awarded to the top three finishers in each Individual and Team category.
  • All participants receive a t-shirt.

    Facts About Faith in Action Caregivers, Inc.
  • Faith in Action Caregivers provided more than 10,000 hours of free assistance to older adults and people with disabilities during 2008.
  • More than 1,150 individuals received help from the organization in 2008.
  • Faith in Action Caregivers is supported through the generosity of individual and corporate donors, faith communities, local foundations and fund raising projects.
  • The most frequently requested service is escorted transportation to medical appointments in the local area as well as in Pittsburgh, Morgantown and Columbus. More than 6,200 volunteer hours were devoted to transportation requests in 2008.
  • All services are provided without charge to the receiver regardless of income level. Services include escorted transportation, shopping, errands, household chores, yard work, assistance with personal record keeping, reading mail, friendly visiting, reassurance phone calls, respite for family caregivers and a home-based exercise program.
