_ The 2023 Rocketman Triathlon:
Rocketman is North Alabama’s Premier Olympic Distance Race. Presented this year by Team Rocket Tri Club and Redstone MWR. It benefits Huntsville Madison County Rescue Squad.
Rocketman 2023 is a traditional Olympic distance of 1500 meter swim (1640 yards), 40 km bike (25 miles), 10 km run (6.1 miles). Triathletes will start and finish at Carrol D Hudson Recreation Area Redstone Arsenal.
In order to participate in this event, you are required to have a valid reason/need for accessing the installation and be registered in the Automated Installation Entry (AIE) System. Individuals with Department of Defense (DoD) issued Identification Cards are automatically registered in the AIE system the first time the Common Access Card or ID is scanned at the installation gates. Non-DoD personnel must register in AIE at the installation Visitor Control Center (VCC) outside Gate 9.
If you currently do no have access to Redstone Arsenal, you may apply for a Recreation Badge for access to the race. More info here for the process:
https://home.army.mil/redstone/index.php/about/visitor-information
* If you can not acquire a Recreation Badge by August 27 and still hope to participate, please indicate in the question field during registration. We can reach out and provide another alternative for base access. This needs to be addressed no later than 2 weeks prior to the event.

Swim: 1500 meters (~1640 yards)
Swim will start upstream of ditto landing. Buses will provide transportation from the transition area to the other side of Ditto Landing near the river greenway entrance. Buses will begin running at 5:30. After the bus drops you off, you will have to walk another ~1/2 mile to the swim start. Wear shoes, and we’ll have a shoe drop directly adjacent to the swim start. If you choose to walk the entire distance, just be aware that the full walk is about 1.5 miles. You will enter the water in a time trial format, seeded by racer provided finish time. You will swim a short ~220 yard segment upstream before turning around and swimming downstream. Please be aware that excess rain and TVA water management can cause river flow rates to increase beyond a safe level. We reserve the right to shorten the swim or cancel it altogether at race director discretion.
BIKE: 40.9 km (25.4 miles)
The bike course is an out and back (with a short lollipop on the far end) along country roads with lots of police support to control/limit traffic and ensure racer safety. All turns will be controlled by volunteers while major turns while be controlled by sheriff deputies / Huntsville Police.
There will be NO aid stations on the Rocketman bike course. However, our bicycle sponsor (Bicycle Cove) will be on the course providing SAG support
RUN: 10 kilometers (6.21 miles)
The Run Course is a single out and back along Aldridge Creek Greenway, free of traffic hazards, mixed shade, and a whopping 5 aid stations with water/Powerade provided by our awesome run course sponsor (Fleet Feet of Huntsville). Four of the five aid stations will have portajohn. Aid station #3 (At the intersection of Green Cove Road and the greenway) will have ice cold wash rags. Aid stations will be at the following locations:
Mile 0.85*, Mile 2.25*, Mile 3.2, Mile 4.1*, Mile 5.5*
Any athlete that fails to adhere to THESE directions will need to reenter the course where they left. If you miss a turn, or fail to turn around at the correct spot, that is officially on you per USAT rules.
* Aid Station + portajohn
