_The 2023 Hagerstown Youth Duathlon #1:

This Youth distance Duathlon will start and end at Halfway Park in Hagerstown, MD…..just 25 minutes from Frederick, MD and 90 minutes from Baltimore and DC. The entire Youth race is within the park and is overall an easy course. This is a great event for the kids 6 years to 13 years of age. We will host the Hagerstown Duathlon and Hagerstown 5K Run during this weekend. See those pages for details.

Race Limit: 100 participants

Giving: The Hagerstown Duathlon will benefit the Cedar Ridge Children’s Home. Cedar Ridge provides quality residential care for abused, abandoned, neglected, adjudicated and emotionally challenged boys between the ages of 6 and 14. www.cedarridge.org

Awards:

There are no awards based on place as this is a non-competitive event designed to encourage youth athletes to become and stay active.  All finishers will receive a custom finisher medal.

Race age will be determined based on the athletes age as of December 31, 2023, per USAT rules.

Event Rules: All athletes must have an approved helmet with the chin strap fastened before entering the bike course.  Your local bike shop can provide you with assistance to ensure your helmet meets approval.  Bikers and runners must obey all traffic rules/laws and race official instructions.  Roads will not be closed to vehicular traffic. Volunteers will be placed in key areas to help you know where to turn but will not be stopping vehicle traffic.  Parents can accompany their child the entire race but must not assist.  Caution must be used to not block other athletes.

Course Information:

Run Course #1: The first run is a short .35 mile loop to get the kids warmed up.

Bike Course: The bike course is out and back on the park road with a slight upgrade on the way out and a slight down hill on the way back.  Distance is about 2 miles. BIKE COURSE IS NOT CLOSED TO VEHICLE TRAFFIC.

Run Course #2: The second run is an out and back course on a paved path and is only slightly rolling.

Transition Area: There is only one transition area on pavement for this event.

Start: We will use a mass start for this event.

Timing: This event will be professionally chip timed!  We will be providing race day results at our results kiosk immediately after you finish your race.  We will also provide a web link to results that you can share with your family and friends so they can follow your race on their web devices.

Course Support: We will have water and sport drink at the water stations on the run as well as at the finish line. There are no water or food stations on the bike course. We will also have food items and beverages at the finish line area for volunteers and participants only.
