Female and Male Wave Starts
The half marathon race start will be split into two different waves Female wave starts at 8:30 a.m and the Male wave starts at 8:48 a.m. However, runners may choose to start in either wave. If someone wants to start with a friend or significant other in a different wave they may do so at any time. It is not necessary to declare which wave you will to start in. Timing mats will be positioned at the start and finish lines in order to capture everyones chip time. The gun time will still be the official time. There are two reasons for having a wave start.

The half marathon race has grown to a point where people could get jammed up on the narrow parts of the course in the first couple of miles. By splitting the pack in half everyone should have a better running experience. The reason for starting the male wave 18 minutes after the female wave is based on an effort to level the playing field. According to a recent report by Running USA the median times for U.S. half marathon finishers in 2010 was 2:00:30 for all males and 2:19:12 for all females. Weve never done this before but were willing to give it a try and see what runners think. If youd like to weigh-in on this subject please let us know by posting to our Facebook page.
