_ The 2022 Scenic Mountain Triathlon:
THE ENTIRE RACE IS HELD IN THE MONONGAHELA NATIONAL FOREST (UNDER SPECIAL USE PERMIT). THE RACE STARTS WITH A .5 MILE SWIM IN SUMMIT LAKE, FOLLOWED BY A 17.1 MILE BIKE RIDE OVER KENNISON MOUNTAIN (ELEVATION OF 3,988 FEET) TO THE CRANBERRY MOUNTAIN NATURE CENTER. THE RACE CONCLUDES WITH A 6.2 MILE RUN DOWN TO THE CRANBERRY GLADES AND BACK TO THE CRANBERRY MOUNTAIN NATURE CENTER TO THE FINISH LINE. IT IS A STATE AND OLYMPIC QUALIFYING EVENT.
Course Information:
A total of 23.8 miles, the race begins with a 0.5-mile swim in Summit Lake, followed by a 17.1-mile bike ride from Summit Lake to Cranberry Mountain Nature Center on State Route 39/55, and ends with a 6.2-mile run from the Nature Center to the locked gate below Cranberry Glades and back to the Finish line at the Nature Center. Once the race begins the Summit Lake road is closed to traffic until the last biker descends the hill. No shuttles will run until after this time.
Two Shuttles will also be provided after the race to take participants back to the lake to pick up their vehicles. Participants select shuttle times upon registration.
Directions:
Richwood is located in south-central West Virginia, on the eastern side of Nicholas County. Follow Interstate 79 South to Route 19 South. After about 25 miles follow signs for Richwood, turning left onto route 55. Follow Route 55/150 East for about 40 miles to Richwood,
Richwood's Scenic Mountain Triathlon starts at the Summit Lake access road, approximately 8 miles East of Richwood, WV, on Route 39/55. Turn left just past the North Bend Picnic area.
