_ The 2022 Nantucket Triathlon:
Dear Athlete,
Nantucket has been my home since 1977 when my family moved here from southern California. Although I spent every summer of my life on Nantucket, you should know that growing up on Nantucket, 25 miles at sea, was a very special experience. Nantucket's long and storied history as the whaling capital of the world, combined with historic architecture, cobblestone streets, vibrant waterfront, pristine beaches, clean waters and beautiful moorlands made for an amazing clubhouse as a kid.
Biking, hikes in the moors or on the beach, exploring Nantucket's open spaces, fishing, sailing and swimming in the clean, clear waters around Nantucket instilled a sense of independence and respect for exercise and the outdoors. My goal in starting the Nantucket Triathlon was to bring a true premiere multi-sport race to the island - an event worthy of the natural resources and facilities that Nantucket has to offer.
I work closely with my college classmate (Ohio Wesleyan '92) Bill Burnett, founder and owner of Streamline Events (www.streamlineevents.com) and together my original vision has become a reality. We have designed a course that is fast and challenging for experienced athletes, yet appealing to first timers as well. After some hard work – the Town has agreed to shut down the roads for the race. We pushed hard for this because the safety of the athletes – and wanting them to have the best race experience – is our highest priority. All you have to do is RACE! But remember that the race course also showcases the beauty and variety of Nantucket from the beaches to the harbor to the open spaces – so make sure to pick up your head once in awhile!
We continue to be humbled by the awesome response of our athletes and supporters. We take seriously the responsibility we have to meet expectations and we are committed to improving the race and the race experience every single year. This year we have added a new timing system with live updates at Transition and the ability for family and friends to follow competitors' progress during the race. Our title sponsor – the Steamship Authority – continues to make getting to Nantucket for the race affordable and hassle-free and their support for the event has been instrumental in our continued success.
We look forward to seeing you on Nantucket Island!
