DUE TO CYANOBACTERIA CELL COUNTS AT 850,000 CELLS/ML AT CECIL M. HARDEN LAKE – RACCOON LAKE SRA, 2022 CAL TRI INDIANAPOLIS - 8.7.22 HAS BEEN CANCELED

CYNOBACTERIA CELL COUNTS. We are sad to inform athletes that due to cyanobacteria cell counts at 850,000 cells/ml at Cecil M. Harden Lake – Raccoon Lake SRA, 2022 Cal Tri Indianapolis - 8.7.22 has been CANCELED.  A Beach Advisory Alert Level goes in place when the cyanobacteria cell count is greater than 100,000 cells/ml. While swimming and boating are currently permitted, there are also instructions to avoid contact with algae and avoid swallowing water while swimming as well as instructions to take a bath or shower with warm soapy water after coming in contact with lake water. This is not conducive with the nature of a triathlon competition where athletes are immersed in the water with an exposure time up to 50 minutes.

SAFE, AFFORDABLE & ACCESSIBLE. The Cal Tri Events mission is safe, affordable & accessible. Athlete safety is a priority. Canceling the race hurts even more knowing how hard people have been training for this race.

REFUND. Full race refunds will be processed today. No additional action is required by athletes. The refund will appear on your next credit card statement.

2022 Cal Tri Indianapolis - 8.7.22. The checkered flag will drop at Cecil M Harden Lake a scant 51 miles west of Indianapolis for one of the flattest and fastest races in our series.

14 EVENT OPTIONS. 7 Olympic distance events (Triathlon, Triathlon Relay, RunBikeRun, SwimBike, SwimRun, 1640 Yard Swim & 10K Run) and 7 Sprint distance events (Triathlon, Triathlon Relay, RunBikeRun, SwimBike, SwimRun, 400 yard Swim & 5K Run). Triathlon = swim + bike + run. Triathlon Relay is 2 or 3 athletes combined to complete the triathlon. Typically, the swim and run distances are standard but the bike distance varies from race to race. Check out the course maps for more detailed information.
