_ The 2021 Lost Loon Triathlon:: a family-friendly competition

The Lost Loon Triathlon is a unique, family-friendly competition that encourages all ages to get outdoors and have fun!  This event is not timed and awards are based on enthusiasm versus speed.  Racers compete at their own pace and skill level.  Costumes optional.

Race teams bike on a paved road for 3-9 miles, tandem canoe for 1 1/2-2 miles on a lake course, and trial run or walk for 2 miles around the lake.  Team members can compete in all legs of the triathlon or divide up the sports like a relay among team members. Two team members are needed for the tandem canoe portion of the race.

Registration/check-in is open from 8-9 am, announcements 9:15, race start 9:30, lunch & awards 11:00, event ends at noon.  Pre-registration is required online in advance at www.lostloons.com.

Team entry fee of $85 is non-refundable and includes canoe rental, 2 adult race shirts and lunch.  Teams can bring their own tandem boat if they have one.  Teams must bring their own bikes, bike helmets and running/walking shoes.  Awards presented at lunch.  All proceeds benefit the Tennnessee Scenic Rivers Association (TSRA) and support river conservation projects.

Course Information:

All legs of the competition take place at Long Hunter State Park.  The competition starts and ends at the Couchville Lake Recreation Area within the park.

The first leg is the bike portion which is 3 loops of 3 miles each or 9 miles total on a paved road in the park.  Teams must bring their own bikes and bike helmets.  Fastened bike helmets are required for all participants.  Racers from tots to seniors can complete the distance appropriate for their skill level and at their own pace.

The second leg is the tandem canoe portion which is 1 1/2-2 miles on a buoyed lake course on Couchville Lake.  Park limits 3 adults per canoe.  Children can paddle in the canoe with their parents.  Teams can bring their own tandem boat, lifejackets and paddles if they prefer.  Fastened life jackets are required for all participants on the water.

The third leg is the trail run or walk which is a scenic 2-mile loop on a paved path around Couchville Lake with aid stations every 1/2 mile.  Strollers accepted.

The finish line is a Lost Loon tradition and we hope you will join us and find out first hand why Loonies have so much fun!

Lost Loon Triathlon is at Long Hunter State Park-Couchville Lake Recreation Area in Hermitage, TN.

The park is about 10 miles east of Nashville International Airport.

Interstate travelers can use I-40 (exit 226-A, Mt. Juliet Rd., Mt. Juliet, TN) or I-24 (exit 62, Old Hickory Blvd. in Antioch, TN) to reach the park.  Hobson Pike is a 2-lane road so please drive safely and allow plenty of time to reach the park.

Please allow 35-40 minutes if driving from Nashville, TN to reach the park.
