  • 2021 Bertam Blast - Off Road Triathlon, Duathlon & MTB Race:

Less than an hour from metropolitan Minneapolis but worlds away, Bertram Lakes is a truly magical place that refreshes the soul. The course, designed by Buffalo Triathlon founder Brett Oden, features miles of wooded single track, pine forests, and grassy doubletrack meandering between a chain of sparkling clear non-motorized lakes. Family-friendly, the venue features a large beachfront transition area and an adjacent brand new warterpark, ropes course, and zip line. Bring the family, join your friends, and feel like a kid at camp again, with live entertainment, food, and a great day of fitness and camaraderie.

The full offroad triathlon consists of a 1/3 mi open-water swim, 6 mi mountain bike course, and a 3 mi trail run. Individuals may register for the full course, for the bike and run only (duathlon), or for a 11.5 mile MB only course. Teams of 2 or 3 may register for the duathlon or triathlon.

Course Information:

  • The swim begins with a wave start from a gradual wide sandy beach on Lake Bertram, used as a swimming beach for a YMCA camp. The lake is non motorized and the triangular swim course is staffed with multiple lifeguards along the 1/3 mi course. The water is warm midsummer and wetsuits are not required.

The bike course is a mix of beginner and intermediate dirt (no rocks) single track and grassy doubletrack with rolling ascents and descents. Any type of mountain bike including fat tire bikes are allowed.

The trail run consists of a blend of wider doubletrack and narrow winding singletrack. The majority of the course is shaded and includes an aid station.

The Mountain Bike only course is 11.5 miles of single track with a few short areas of double track, more technical and slightly higher degree of difficulty than the triathlon bike course.
