_ The 2020 Martindale Triathlon:
The Martindale Tri is reputed to be the oldest triathlon in Texas. It is brought to you by the Texas Canoe and Kayak Racing Association. It is unique in that the swim leg has been replaced by a paddle leg (canoe, kayak, or SUP) down the beautiful San Marcos River. Sign up solo, as a two-person team (one person runs, the other bikes, and both paddle) or as a three-person relay (one person per leg). Join us for a day of fun, competition, and the traditional post-race meal.
Course Information:
The Tri kicks off with a 7-mile road run through the quaint little town of Martindale, TX. Next up is the bike portion, which covers 16.5 miles of rolling hills just outside of Martindale and Staples on FM 1979 to FM 621 to FM 3353 and back to FM 621 and returning to Shady Grove on FM 1979 . Finally, a 5.5 mile paddle from Shady Grove Campground (aka Spencer Canoes) down to the 1977 bridge in Staples.
Directions:
The Martindale Tri takes place in Martindale, TX at Shady Grove Campground/Spencer's Canoes: It is located 8 miles east of I-35 on Hwy 80, turn right onto FM 1979. Go 1 mile, cross over the bridge over the San Marcos river and Shady Grove Campground is on the left. 9515 FM 1979

If you don't have a boat, Paddle with Style will rent you a solo or tandem kayak or canoe. They will transport them to the start line and pick them up at the finish.
