Course Information:

SWIM: The swim is a triangle with the long side first, then a hard left turn and a 90-degree left. To finish the swim, make a right around the buoy just off the shoreline at the starting point. The park's lake is shallow and warm, with temperature usually in the 80's. In many sections a swimmer could stand up and take a break.

BIKE: To access the bike course, athletes ride across grass to the "Yield" sign, then go left on pavement to the trailhead. The bike course is a single lap of 13.5 miles. After exiting the singletrack, follow pavement back to the Yield sign, and cross the grass again to the Transition Area.

RUN: The run course is a bit over 5 miles. It begins by running across the grass to the Yield sign, turn right to cross the roadway bridge, and an immediate left onto trail 2 (wooden stairs). The first mile of the course has much climbing and rugged terrain. The middle miles are rolling terrain. The final mile is relatively flat with three creek crossings (which are typically dry but rocky) Aid stations are located approximately mile 1 and Mile 4, where the course crosses a paved road. Duathlon first run will shortcut between the two aid stations, uphill on pavement.

Are you new to off road triathlon or perhaps you're interested in honing your transition skills? If you'd like to learn how to get free speed, Mudslingers Endurance Coaching, formerly Braveheart Coaching Chicago, is hosting a free transition and course preview clinic the evening before both the race. One of Mudslingers coaches, Chrissy Halioris, will give you the skinny on both courses and what you can do to have your best possible performance come race day. Mudslingers Endurance Coaching works with endurance athletes who compete in both on and off-road events including triathlon, ultra endurance running, cycling and gravel racing.
