Richwood's Scenic Mountain Triathlon 2020:
Richwood’s Scenic Mountain Triathlon is the longest running Triathlon in the state. It is an event that has become a favorite of triathletes and spectators alike, sparking comments such as, “If I could go to one race in a year, this would be it!” This race is a great inspiration to the athletes in West Virginia, as well as across several states, with participants ranging in age from 12-70!
This year, USA Triathlon, the national governing body for the multisport disciplines of triathlon, duathlon, aquathlon and winter triathlon in the United States, has designated the Scenic Mountain Triathlon as the USA Triathlon Championship Race for the State of West Virginia. As such, the overall adult winners and overall 19 and under winners of the race will be designated West Virginia USAT State Champions.
A total of 23.8 miles, the race begins with a 0.5-mile swim in Summit Lake, followed by a 17.1-mile bike ride from Summit Lake to Cranberry Mountain Nature Center on State Route 39/55, and ends with a 6.2-mile run from the Nature Center to the locked gate below Cranberry Glades and back to the Finish line at the Nature Center. Once the race begins the Summit Lake road is closed to traffic until the last biker descends the hill. No shuttles will run until after this time.
Two Shuttles will also be provided after the race to take participants back to the lake to pick up their vehicles. Participants select shuttle times upon registration.
