_ The 19th Annual Bob Bridgman 5k Memorial Run for Charity:
The Bob Bridgman Memorial 5k race is scheduled this year for its normal time at 8:30 am on Memorial Day at Mansfield University's Shaute Baseball Field. The annual event is held in memory of Bob, who taught Mathematics at Mansfield for 30 years, beginning in 1963. Bob raced competitively for 25 years in hundreds of local events, mostly in North Central Pennsylvania and New York State's Southern Tier. He loved the local running community, where he had many friends on the racing circuit and this was perhaps his favorite thing about the sport. He often said that he "lived life from one Saturday to the next."
Proceeds from the race are gifted to 4 charitable causes:
The Mansfield University Cross Country Team
The Mansfield High School Cross Country Team
The Bob Bridgman Memorial Scholarship at MU
Second Chance Animal Sanctuary
Age Groups: 12 & under, 13-15, 16-19, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60-69, 70-79, and 80+. (1st Male and 1st Female are separate, no duplication of awards)
The 5k course is wheel measured, there are T-shirts to the first 100 registrants (sometimes more), professional timing is conducted by Falcon Timing, and there is a water stop at approximately the half-way point. For pricing please see the registration form: http://www.jeffbridgman.com/5k/2019-RaceForm.pdf
There are special family rates. Participants are asked to bring, in addition, a can or bag of dry dog or cat food for donation to Second Chance Animal Sanctuary.
A kids "Fun Run" will also be held and will take place while the 5k race is in progress. No pre-registration necessary, just come prepared for a short run around the field.
Last year's proceeds resulted in $3,900 in overall charitable giving. Donations were as follows:
$700 to the Mansfield University Cross Country Team
$700 to the Bob Bridgman Memorial Scholarship at Mansfield University
$700 to the North Penn-Mansfield High School Cross Country Team
$700 to Second Chance Animal Sanctuary
$700 to Mansfield Ambulance
In addition, each graduating senior on the MHS Cross Country Team received a $100 scholarship. There were four recipients for a total of $400.
Because each registrant is asked to kindly bring a bag of dry dog or cat food, the race also results in the donation of a truckload of these to Second Chance Animal Sanctuary.
Overall Male Winner was Matt Wilber of Corning, NY with a time of 16:32
Overall Female Winner was Michelle Rohl of Mansfield, PA with a time of 20:41
There were 129 finishers.

The race is sponsored by the Bob Bridgman Memorial Race Committee and Friends of Bob, with many thanks to Mansfield University for the facilities and to many local, charitable donors. For more information call Roger Learn at (570) 297-3271.
