Come Enjoy beautiful Dauphin Island, Alabama, in mid October when the weather is temperate - "not too hot - not too cold - just right" The 4th annual Tri The Gulf is hosted by the Mobile Bar Foundation, Inc. and the presenting sponsor is Infirmary Health Systems. All of the proceeds benefit civic and charitable endeavors located in Southwest Alabama, notably providing free legal advice and services to persons with limited financial means. The TTG is based at the iconic Isle Dauphine Club on the Island, The swim occurs in "Pelican Bay," which is an inlet off of the Gulf of Mexico. Triathletes have the benefit of Gulf water - without the wave action. The "cable tow" approach is used for the swim. The bike ride is on beautiful Dauphin Island and the Dauphin Island Bridge. The run is on the Island and ends adjacent to the seashore of the Gulf of Mexico. Wonderful after-the-event party for all participants and volunteers. Great finisher awards and swag. Swim - 600 yards, utilizing cable tow approach (i.e. a series of buoys will be linked together a distance of 300 yards). Triathletes will swim out to last buoy and then turn around and swim back to shore. We will have great water support.
Bike - 16.7 miles on beautiful Dauphin Island and the Dauphin Island Bridge.
Run - 3.1 miles on beautiful Dauphin Island. Finish line is on golf course fairway adjacent to shore of the Gulf of Mexico.
Dauphin Island is located in South Mobile County, Alabama. Take Interstate Highway 10 to Rangeline Road/Dauphin Island (Ala. Hwy Number 193) exit. Head south on Rangeline Road to Dauphin Island Parkway (follow signs). When you get on Island Ala. Hwy 193 becomes LeMoyne Drive. Continue approximately 1/2 mile until you come to the dead end (water tower) - turn right onto Bienville Boulevard. Go approximately 3/4 mile and Orleans Drive will be on the left. There will be signs and personnel to direct you. YOU WILL NOT GET LOST. Important info: Dauphin Island Bridge will close to regular two-way traffic at 6:30 a.m. to enable the Bridge to be set up for the triathlon. Get on the Island BEFORE 6:30 a.m. DO NOT try to utilize the Gulf Shores-Dauphin Island Ship Ferry to come to the Island BEFORE the event. The Ferry should be open and operational AFTER the event.
