Sprint Distance Triathlon, Aquabike, & Stand-Up Paddle-Board Options
After a two-year hiatus the best triathlon venue in Colorado makes its highly anticipated return! We couldn't be more excited about this course, this lake, and the overall experience. The swim starts out in the surprisingly warm waters of Steamboat Lake (74 degrees average race temp), then athletes transition to the most scenic bike course you'll ever find. You're more likely to see a herd of cattle crossing the road than be passed by a vehicle! After a ride through the rolling country-side athletes will transition to a 3.5 mile run course that's 50% on road, and 50% on the dirt trails that hug the lakeside. When we tell athletes you're running through wild flower meadows, we're not exaggerating.
Pack the camping gear and make a weekend getaway for your all your friends and family! We do have a limited set number of reserved camping spots that you can book by clicking the proper links on the race info page (camping info - reservation link will be posted soon). This year we're also offering a duathlon, aquabike, and stand-up paddle-board division!
Course Information:
Swim: The 750 meter swim course takes place in the pristine waters of Steamboat Lake. Shockingly the average water temp for this event has been 72-74 degrees! How you ask? It's a very shallow lake and fully exposed to the sun. Swimmers will start in the water for a waste-deep race start, keeping all the buoys on their right hand side for a clock-wise swim. Once athletes exit the water they'll have a blue carpet lining the path all the way into the transition area!
Bike: The Steamboat Lake Triathlon bike course is hard to capture in just words. This 12.4 mile rolling out and back ride through the country-side will take you past some of the most stunning views in all of Colorado. Look one way and you'll see Hahns Peak looming in the distance, look the other way and you could see a herd of cattle grazing through the wildflowers. Road conditions are amazing and vehicle traffic is non-existent. The only part of this bike course that will make you sad is when it's over!
Run: If you thought the bike course was fun, you haven't seen anything yet. The 3.5 mile run course starts out traversing the same roads as the bike course for the first 1.8 miles. There's an aid station located at the top of the tallest hill on CR 62, then it's rolling terrain all the way back to the finish line. Our favorite part of this course is the Willow Creek Trail. For the final 1.7 miles of the course athletes will be running through wild flower meadows just a few feet from the lake! You're probably thinking, this is all hype? Follow our Instagram account for some of the stunning photos from prior race years. Once across the finish line be sure to hang out for post race refreshments, awards, raffles, and sharing race stories with friends and family.

DIRECTIONS TO LAKE CATAMOUNT
Lake Catamount is located on CR 18, nestled in a beautiful valley off of CR 131. Directions coming from Denver, take Hwy 40 traveling west, turn left on Hwy 131, then left on CR 18. The transition area will be on the left hand side, near the Lake House. Coming from the east, travel through downtown Steamboat, turn right on Hwy 131, then left on CR 18.
