Maine to the top of Mt. Washington...
The Sea to Summit is not your traditional multisport race. This is an amazing day which combines the core elements of triathlon with the challenges of an adventure race. With support of your Porter, you’ll swim 1.5 miles, ride 95 miles then run and climb your way up the tallest — and deadliest — mountain in the Northeastern United States. Serious athletes only need apply — and don’t delay, for the field limit has been reached in each of the past three years.

Course Information:

The Sea to Summit Triathlon is a largely self-supported race consisting of:

  • a 1.5 mile swim in a tidal river connected to the Atlantic Ocean
  • a 91-95 mile bike ride (depending on course variations) from Maine into New Hampshire, following roads of your choosing, with 6000 feet of climbing
  • a strenuous 5.5 mile run/climb up the tallest mountain in the Northeast: Mount Washington, with 4300 feet of vertical gain in altitude

Support: Each competitor must designate a support person who will be present at the start, drive the course (although not alongside the athlete), take away the bike at T2, and chauffeur the athlete down the mountain.

Qualifications: This is not a race for beginners or even intermediate level triathletes. Required for entry into Sea to Summit is the completion of a 70.3 distance triathlon in 6:29 or less, or a 140.6 (“Ironman”) triathlon in 13:29 or less, completed after Jan. 1, 2017. Alternatively, athletes who have completed three or more IM distance races since 2011 — with one of their finishes below the above qualifying standard — will also be accepted.
