_ The 2018 Try a Tri with the Yorktown Triathlon Club & Victory Family YMCA Indoor Triathlon:
Swim for 10 minutes, bike for 15 minutes, and run/walk for 15 minutes and all inside!
Join us for the Yorktown Triathlon Club and Victory Family YMCA’s first annual Indoor Triathlon Series and have the most fun you've ever have indoors! All levels are welcome. Ages 9+.
This first annual event is designed to be fun activity for new and experienced triathletes while supporting a great cause. This event offers all participants the opportunity to have fun in a controlled and safe environment.
The funds raised help the Victory Family YMCA to promote and achieve its mission’s commitment to healthy living in the community. This event is a perfect fit for any level. We’re looking at a sellout so register early! Childcare will be provided through the YMCA Child Watch, but you must be pre-registered.
This is a three-event race in which the goal is to cover the greatest distance in the allotted time. Each event will be run in heats, with the first beginning at 7:30 a.m. There will be a 5-10 minute transition period between heats.
10-minute Pool Swim – participants will have 10 minutes to swim as far as they can. There will be two persons per lanes, the lanes will be split (NO circle swimming). You can do any stroke you like - back stroke, breast stroke, freestyle, just so long as you do not interfere with the other participant in your lane. If when the 10 minute time has passed and you have gone at least half a lap you will get credit for the full lap. So 21.5 lengths and you will be given credit for 22 lengths. Wetsuits and swimming aids are also not allowed.
15-minute Stationary Bike Ride - participants are set up on traditional spin bikes which have been outfitted with their own computers which will record rpm's and distance only. There is no extra credit for adding resistance to your bike.
15-minute Treadmill Run/Walk- participants will have 15 minutes to run as far as they can on the treadmill. Again, there is no extra credit for incline; it is a matter of simply how far you run.
The Transitions: Unlike and outdoor triathlon, the transitions are not counted toward your over-all score. You will have ample time, about 5 to 10 minutes to get from one discipline to the other. We do not want competitors running through the facility to get the next event for fear of injuring themselves or others.
All of the disciples will be monitored and supervised by a staff of race day volunteers. The volunteers will direct you, counts your swim laps and help you record your bike and run distance.
Participant goodie bag, finisher medal, t-shirt, child care (if pre-registered), shower facilities, and baggage storage (available in the YMCA locker rooms; please bring a lock as the YMCA is not responsible for lost or stolen items).
Packets will be available at the Victory Family YMCA on Saturday, October 20 from 4 p.m. - 7 p.m. and starting at 6:30 a.m. on race day. Packets must be picked up at least 30 minutes before your selected heat start time. A pre-race meeting will be held Saturday, October 20 at 6 p.m.
