2011 Ravine Lake Triathlon:

  • The rejuvenated Ravine Lake waterfront will host swimming, biking and running enthusiasts from around the region at Hurons first triathlon competition on Saturday, July 11.

  • A couple of us were talking one day about having a triathlon in Huron explained Sherman Gose, one of the event organizers. As the conversation progressed we talked about the great treasure we have in the Ravine Lake waterfront and that it is a shame more people in the community and region dont know about it.
  • Gose contacted a few other people and soon the Lake Ravine Triathlon committee was developing the idea into Hurons first-ever triathlon event.
  • We decided to go with a short course so that even beginners could give it a try and, competitors can use it for a warm-up event, said Gose. Its more like a tryathlon than a super competitive event. A chance to set a goal, train and come on out on a Saturday morning and enjoy the lakes beauty and great Huron hospitality.

  • Family and friends can cheer the participants along from the lake front.
  • After the race, fans and participants can enjoy a delicious lunch and even take in a round of mini-golf on a newly constructed 18-hole course.
  • Plus, enjoy SDSU ice cream and homemade pie in the remodeled 1928 bathhouse.

    • Course Information:


  • Swimmers depart from the beach and swim out and around one of four bouys set 200 meters into the lake.
  • Participants then exit the lake to a grassy knoll and begin the bike route by following the beautiful James River to the highway 14 service road past the Community Gardens and back toRavine Lake.
  • Finally, the run takes participants from Ravine Lake into Memorial Park before turning around an d running the Ravine Lake bike path ending the 1.5 mile run in front of the bath house.

    • Registration begins at 08:30
    •  Helmets required
    • Preregistration is encouraged but not required.
    • Prizes awarded for
      •  Men & Women 19 & under,
      • Men & Women 20-39,
      • Men & Women 40
      •  & over and Team overall.
