_ The 2018 North Shore SUP Cup:

Details: 2nd Annual Stand Up Paddle Board race along the Danvers River. Paddlers will launch from the charming Danversport Yacht Club and navigate through protected waters to the turnaround Peters Point by the Kernwood Country Club in Salem.

Races: 5 Mile Race, 2.5 Mile Race, and 1 Mile Kids Race

**The 14′ male and 12’6 female board classes are the “standard” most commonly recognized board classes for cash payouts, this field will occupy all elites/pro paddlers but is not mandatory that you have the elite/pro title to compete in this class.

**The 12’6 M/F amateur racing divisions are for anyone riding this size board not interested in competing for a cash prize or paddling within the elite/pro female 12’6 class.

**The M/F (Under 12’board) class is for anyone racing on a 12’ board or smaller.

Course Information:

Course: Paddling along the flat waters of the Porter River and Crane River will be perfect for all paddle levels from novice to elite. The coveted rivers attract the novice paddler looking for a great workout, while amateur to elite paddlers can test their speed skills on this timed 5 mile course & 2.5 mile course.

Race Day Registration and Check-In: Opens at 11am | MANDATORY pre-paddle safety meeting at the start at 1pm.

1 Mile Kids Race: 12:30pm
5 Mile Race: 1pm
2.5 Mile Race: 1:10pm

 Swag|Perks – all participants will receive:

  • A custom long sleeve event shirt.
  • Post Paddle Cookout which includes: Strawberry Salad & Caesar Salad, BBQ Chicken, Hamburgers, Hot Dogs, Cole Slaw, Corn on the Cob, & Watermelon.
  • There will be a cash bar including beer & wine.

Youth Paddle: $35

We encourage everyone that’s paddling to invite their family and friends to hang around all morning to enjoy the food, the drinks, the picturesque view of the river, and participate in a friendly game of volleyball or corn hole.

Safety: All participants are required to have a PFD on board and wear a leash. Safety whistles are recommended. Granted you are paddling in safe, calm waters this is a safety requirement standard enforced by the USCG. There will be a number of kayakers and water vessels staged throughout the course in case you need an extra hand or you experience an emergency while out there.

What to bring: Paddleboard, paddle, leash, PFD, sunscreen, towel, license (21+), and safety whistle (optional).

Parking: Plenty of FREE parking on the premises!

Board Rentals: If you don’t own your board, paddle, leash, or PFD make sure to visit our friends at Sup East Coast Style in Marblehead, MA OR Cape Ann Sup Essex, MA OR Coast to Coast Paddle to make sure you are equipped with the proper size and type of board for your skill level. We recommend you contact these shops well in advance to reserve your gear, be sure to mention you are paddling in the North Shore SUP Cup for a discount.

Beneficiary: This year our chosen beneficiary is the MDA. A nonprofit health agency dedicated to curing muscular dystrophy, ALS and related diseases by funding worldwide research. In particular, donations will be allocated to the MDA Summer Camp which provides thousands of kids with muscular dystrophy and related muscle-debilitating diseases “the best week of the year.” At MDA Summer Camp, kids are living beyond limits in a place where anything is possible. It’s a week where they’re free to enjoy adventures like horseback riding, swimming and fishing, develop lifelong friendships, and build self-confidence and independence.
