The Virginia Masters Open Water Championship will be held in Outside Magzine's "Best River City" and craft beer mecca, Richmond, VA.  This spectator friendly course and multiple length event settings offer a unique and challenging experience for the entire family!  

 

The event will be held on June 16 with distance options of 5K, 2.5K and 1.25K options so everyone can race.  Located just minutes from downtown Richmond on this scenic landscape, this event is one of a kind.

  • Head to Robious Landing Park near James River High School.
  • Take a right onto Riverton Ridge Way just before the entrance to the park.
  • Take that up to the traffic circle and go left onto Welby Drive.

Take your 5th right onto Welby Turn and go to the end of the cul-de-sac.

General Info:

  • This event will be held rain or shine. There is no make-up date.
  • Event may be delayed or cancelled due to lightning or unsafe river conditions.  No refunds will be offered.
  • Average water temperature is expected to be in the Mid- 70s
  • Extra T-shirts and Brunch tickets for coaches and spectators may be ordered online at www.PelusoOpenWater.com
  • Swimmers lounge will be set up under the pavilion closest to the river.

Open water:  The race course is an open water river swim and will consist of a 1.25K loop marked with large orange buoys and smaller yellow buoys. There will be an in water start and finish. Timing chips will be used for primary timing, video will be used for back up timing.

  • Each race will consist of a specific number of loops in order to complete the distance:

5K = 4 Loops

2.5K = 2 Loops

1.25K = 1 Loop

  • Details of race course with landmarks is available  at check-in.
  • Expected water temperature is Mid-70’s. Water depth averages 14 feet.

There will be some current in the river. The current strength is dependent on the river level on race day. June is typically a very good time of year for swimming in the river with little current.
