Description
Enjoy the summer with the special, summer only Wednesday edition of Metro Movers. All hikes will be in Forest Park, and are classified as Moderate or Difficult, depending on the elevation change and the terrain. Some hikes are new to Metro Movers, while others may take slightly different routes than previous hikes. Because of winter weather, hikes may change should damage to trails or roads necessitate changes.
7/11/2018 Saltzman Road to Maple Trail; Rating: Difficult
Take Highway 30 through the industrial area. (This is called Yeon Avenue before it intersects with NW St. Helens Road.) Drive about 1.9 miles past the intersection of Yeon and NW St. Helens Road (there is a major stoplight at this intersection). Look for NW 57th Ave. The next block is NW Saltzman Road, just past Anderson Roofing Company. Follow Saltzman to the top of the hill, at the end of the road. The road is mostly paved, but with significant potholes, has a sharp turn before heading up the hill, and is fairly narrow. Meet at the closed gate at the top of the hill.
Transit is available along NW St. Helens Road, but it is over a mile steep uphill walk to the trailhead. No restrooms.
