_ 2018 Sandling Beach Olympic Triathlon & Aquabike:
One of the nice parts about staging the Sandling Beach International at Sandling Beach State Park is that the park is totally closed to the public. Sandling Beach State Park closes for the year on Oct. 1st.
However, since the park is closed, we are not able to hold packet pick-up at the park the day before the race. Consequently, packet pick-up on Saturday will be held at a location to be determined.
We urge anyone wanting to check out the race site and courses to do so prior to Oct. 1st.
Swim:
The swim for the Sandling Beach International will start and finish on the huge white sandy beach at Sandling Beach. The one mile swim will be a triangular shaped course. This probably will not be a wetsuit legal race, but it will likely be a race day decision. We’ll obviously keep you posted as we get to race week on the official water temperature.
This is a time trial start with participants starting one at a time every couple of seconds.
Bike:
The 40K bike course exits the park and heads north on Hwy 50 for about two miles and then heads east on Old Weaver Road. The bulk of the bike course is located east of Hwy 50 and enjoys fairly rural roads and some small hills that add a little spice to the ride.
Run:
The 10K run course stays completely inside the park boundaries. Runners will enjoy a heavily shaded course on the totally closed park roads. The run course is 100% on paved surfaces.
