Race Details
        Triathlon / Duathlon

Check-in and Pool Warm-up will be from 6:00 a.m. to 7:00 a.m.  There will be no check-in after 7:00 a.m.

All participants must sign the USAT waiver at the time of check-in.  To read the waiver prior to race day, visit www.usatriathlon.org or contact Faith in Action Caregivers at 304-243-5420.

All Athletes must present a photo ID at the time of check-in.  No ID, No Race, No Exceptions.  Athletes under age 18 must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian with a photo ID.

A mandatory pre-race meeting for all athletes begins at 7:15 a.m. in the pool area.  Only athletes are permitted in the pool area.

Helmets are required on the bike course.

Refreshments are available throughout the race for all participants, spectators and volunteers.

Child care is not available on the day of the race.

Professional timing services are provided by George Frazier.

Athletes can compete in age group divisions of Under Age 20" and then in five-year increments.  Athletes can also compete in weight categories, individual clergy categories or on relay teams.

No headphones, cell phones or other electronic devices are permitted during any part of the race.

No drafting is permitted on the bike course.   

    Triathlon Only
The race begins at 7:30 a.m. with the first wave of the swim event.  Wet suits are permitted in the pool.  Waves begin every 12 minutes with the slowest estimated overall time in the first wave.  Wave assignments cannot be changed on race day.

    Duathlon Only
The race begins at 7:45 a.m. with a group start outside the Transition Area.    

NOTE: Faith in Action Caregivers, Inc. reserves the right to change the course of the race prior to the start of the race due to unexpected weather conditions, traffic control problems or other situations that may affect the safety of participants, spectators and volunteers.  Any changes will be announced at the pre-race meeting at 7:15 a.m. on race day. 

Course Information:

The Triathlon Race Course   
Swim:    The 400 meter swim will be in the outdoor pool at Wheeling Park. 
Bike:    The 25 K course will follow the Wheeling Park Exit Rd. to National Rd., turn left onto National Rd. and travel east to Lumber Ave.  Participants then make a left turn onto Lumber Ave. at DiCarlos Pizza, follow Lumber Ave. to the stop sign and turn right onto the Shilling Bridge.  After crossing the Shilling Bridge, athletes turn left into the Elm Grove Crossing Mall at the Subway Restaurant.  Bikers continue through the parking lot and make a right turn onto Krause Rd. and then left onto National Rd..  Bikers follow National Rd. to Middle Creek Rd. and make a right turn.  The course follows Middle Creek Rd. to Union Hill Rd. and turn around.  Bikers then follow Middle Creek Rd. back to the National Rd. intersection and turn right and proceed east to the old Scott Lumber facility.  Bikers turn around at this point and travel west on National Rd. and make a right turn onto Krause Rd. and then a left turn into the Elm Grove Crossing Mall.  At Subway bikers make a right turn onto the Shilling Bridge, cross the bridge and then make a left onto Lumber Ave.  Following Lumber Ave. the bikers will turn right onto National Rd. and then make a right turn into the main entrance to Wheeling Park.
Run:    The 5 K run will take place in Wheeling Park.  From the transition area, runners will turn left and follow the paved path around the pool, turn left into the parking lot along the marked area, turn left and exit the park along the Entrance Rd.  At the Park Entrance, turn right and run on the sidewalk along National Rd. to the Park Exit.  Turn right into the park and return to the parking lot.  From the parking lot, two additional laps are made and then runners proceed to the Finish Line near Good Lake. 

    The Duathlon Race Course
Run:    The 3 K run begins with a group start outside the Pool Building.  Runners turn left out of the parking lot and follow the Park Entrance Rd. to National Rd.  Turn right and run along the sidewalk to the Park Exit.  Turn right into the park and return to the parking lot.  From the parking lot runners make one more lap.  As runners enter the parking lot on the second lap, they will follow the path behind the pool and back into the Transition Area.
Bike:    The 25 K bike course is listed above.
Run:    The 5 K run course is listed above. 

Directions:

Directions: Wheeling Park is located at 1801 National Rd. in Wheeling, WV.  From Interstate 70 West take Exit 5 (WV-88 / Elm Grove / Triadelphia).  Turn left at the end of the exit ramp traffic light.  At the next traffic light turn right onto U.S. Rt. 40 / WV-88.  Travel approximately one mile to Wheeling Park entrance on your right.  From Interstate 70 East take Exit 4 (WV-88 / Elm Grove).  Turn left at the end of the exit ramp onto U. S. Rt. 40.  Travel approximately .7 miles to the Wheeling Park entrance on your right. Wheeling, West Virginia is located about 60 miles west of Pittsburgh, PA and 130 miles east of Columbus, OH.  (Note: National Rd. is another name for U. S. Rt. 40.)

Registration deadline is July 6, 2011 at 5:00 p.m.
If you are not a member of USAT, you must pay a $10.00 fee to cover the cost of one-day membership.  This is built into the registration fee.  Please note that this is membership for race day only.
Register 10 or more members from one faith community, club, business, family or other organization and receive a $5 per person (or $10 per team) discount when registrations are submitted together. The group discount applies for either the triathlon, the duathlon or a combination of registrations.

Facts About Faith in Action Caregivers, Inc.
    Faith in Action Caregivers provided more than 10,000 hours of free assistance to over 1,379 older adults and people with disabilities during 2010.  The organization is supported through the generosity of individuals and corporate donors, faith communities, local foundations and fund raising projects. 
    The most frequently requested service is escorted transportation to medical appointments in the local area as well as in Pittsburgh and Morgantown.  More than 5,400 hours were devoted to transportation requests in 2010.  All services are provided without charge to the receiver regardless of income level.  Services include escorted transportation, shopping, errands, household chores, yard work, assistance with personal record keeping, reading mail, friendly visiting, reassurance phone calls, respite for family caregivers and a senior exercise program.

Race Volunteers Needed
Volunteers are needed to help on the day of the race with traffic control.  All race volunteers must be at least 18 years old.  To request a race volunteer application and a list of race volunteer training sessions, contact Faith in Action Caregivers by phone or email.  All race volunteers receive a t-shirt to wear on race day and a gift bag from our sponsors.

The Faith in Action Caregivers Triathlon / Duathlon is sponsored by individuals and businesses in the community who support the independent living of older adults and people with disabilities.  You can support this work by becoming a race sponsor.  Either include an additional check for $100 or more with your registration or donate online on our website www.faithinactionwheeling.org. A complete list of race sponsors will be available on race day or by contacting Faith in Action Caregivers. 

Awards
All finishers receive a medal at the Finish Line.  Trophies will be awarded to the top three overall male and female finishers in the Triathlon and in the Duathlon.  Trophies are awarded to the top three finishers in all Individual and Team competition categories.  All participants will receive a Tenth Anniversary micro-fiber shirt and a gift bag from our sponsors.

Transfer Policy
Athletes may request a refund of paid registration prior to the start of the race with documentation of an injury, illness or family situation that prevents participation in the race.  Athletes may request that fees paid be held and transferred to next years race if they are unable to participate in the event.  If an event is not held the following year, the registration fee will be refunded.  Athletes may choose to transfer paid registration fees to another athlete prior to the close of registration for the event.  Fees may not be transferred to another athlete after the close of registration, but refunds may be requested according to the above policy.

Look for a Confirmation Letter
All athletes should look for a confirmation letter to verify your race entry and competition category.  These will be sent either by email or postal mail starting June 1, 2011.  If you do not receive a confirmation notice it may mean that your race registration has not been received.  If you do not receive a confirmation notice, contact our office prior to July 7, 2011.  We will not be able to make additions to the participant roster after that date.
