_ The 2018 Motor City Triathlon:

Michigan's newest state park, Belle Isle sets the scene for arguably the fastest triathlon course in the entire country. If you’re looking for a PR, this is the place to do it!

Beginning 2017 both Motor City and the Michigan Championship will use the exact same venue and courses.  In the past we were asked to change the venue.  We will also always follow 2 weeks after the Grand Prix.  In previous years we were one week.  So this will push the event further into June, but ensure the entire Grand Prix set is vacated the venue we use.  We will be utilizing Shelter 1 area, which is located directly behind the clock / flag pole when you come on the island.

You will again have a dedicated closed Bike lane and vehicle lane for the bike portion of the event as well as a lane for the run course making this a closed course for your PR.  Moving to a 7:30 a.m. start time will get the majority of athletes off the island road before the park gets busy.

Course Information:

Arguably the fastest triathlon course in the country! Dozens of athletes have broken the elusive two-hour barrier over the years for the Olympic Distance, as well as the one-hour barrier for the Sprint course.

The swim is always the question in new athlete's minds, but it’s also why this event has grown each year, as it has almost produced a PR swim every time. The water in the Detroit River has been tested to be among the cleanest in the state. Because the water is constantly moving, you can see clear to the bottom almost 20 feet down, and you can take advantage of the current to get you your fastest swim ever.

The bike is awesome, featuring a closed course that offers some great scenery, with the large freighters floating through on the Canadian side of the island and the Detroit skyline and Ambassador Bridge on the south end. The course is flat, lightning fast and has been the site for many PR bike splits as well.

No more Grand Prix so we are back to the old course, out the back side of transition, looping back around to the north end of the island.
