Running : Concord 5000 |
Diablo Valley Federal Credit Union (DVFCU) is pleased to present the 1st Annual Concord 5000, benefitting the Blue Star Moms of Contra Costa County. Chartered in 1961, Diablo Valley Federal Credit Union is a financial cooperative which is owned and operated by its members. Anyone who lives, works, worships or attends school in central Contra Costa County is eligible to open an account. Your funds are insured up to $250,000 through National Credit Union Administration, a U.S. Government agency.
The race begins near the Oak tree in Newhall Park. Runners proceed Southeast out of the park and cross Ayers Road. Runners continue on the dirt California Riding and Hiking Trail, encountering some short but steep challenging terrain. Runners exit the dirt trail at Ygnacio Valley Road and Alberta Way. Go left on Alberta Way, then left on Academy. Then make a right into the Gonsalves Stadium on the campus of Clayton Valley Charter High School. Test your speed on the fast surface of the CVCHS running track—make one lap then head back out on Academy, which turns into Brook Hollow. Cross Ayers Road a second time back into the park. Proceed northwest on the perimeter trail, looping back towards the start area. This time, cross the first bridge, then a quick jaunt on the grass surface before heading back towards the finish on the second footbridge. Continue on the perimeter trail back to the finish line near the Oak tree.
Please note: Participants should be properly trained prior to attempting any timed running event. Participants wishing to walk will be asked to line up near the back of the start area. The course will be open for 75 minutes. After this time the police department will reopen the roads to traffic and anyone still on the course must obey all local traffic laws. Aid station(s) and the finish area may be closed and the participant may not receive an official finish time and/or other race amenities.
Because of the steep and narrow terrain on the dirt trail sections, there will be no strollers, scooters, wheelchairs or pets allowed on the course. The race will take place RAIN or SHINE. Once registered, there will be no refunds for inclement weather or any other reason, including but not limited to unforeseen injuries, illness, personal emergencies, etc.
