Himalayan Rush is an annual adrenaline-filled destination triathlon that takes place in Begnas Lake, Pokhara - the only triathlon organized in the Himalayan foothills. By combining the thrill of trail running, cycling and fresh water swimming with the breathtaking view of the Himalayas surrounding Pokhara, we strive to give each participant a uniquely Nepali experience.

From the first edition in 2012 with only 30 participants, to the sixth in 2017 with 100 plus participants, we have gained popularity among both national and international communities. Though the participation number is small, it is a specialty triathlon that has gained accolades from across the world. The seventh edition in March 31, 2018 looks set to be the biggest yet with an estimated 250 participants.

As a contribution towards the society Himalayan rush organizes a free medical camp jointly with Dr. Khagendra Sports Foundation especially for the women around Begnas area and distributes free medicines.

Course Information:

Himalayan Rush Triathlon includes fresh water swimmimg, cycling and running.

The swim is in Begnas Lake. It’s an out an out and back swim for all categories.

Only mountain bikes on the cycling section as the course is a mix of paved roads and jeep tracks. Single loop each for Sprint and Standard. Standard course overlaps with the Sprint course till the half way point.

The run is also an out and back course with a mix of paved road and trail. In short, up up up on the way out and down down down on the way back to the finish.

The distances mentioned are only approximate. Final distance will depend on trail conditions. A few words on each category:

Sprint: Never done a tri before, never swam in open water before? But, you’re comfortable in the water and can devote some time for training, the sprint distance should be your choice. The toughest for you will likely be the steep trail climb and downhill sections. Nothing much to worry about on the other parts of the race course. We’ve had multiple people finish this distance and course as their first ever triathlon.

Standard: We think, you should be reasonably fit for this one. It’s not just the longer length of the course but it is also technically more difficult, as the cycling course is much tougher as compared to the sprint. The longer course includes a few long uphills on the cycling section on trail as well as paved road. If you are not used to riding on trails then you will for sure find the uphill trail sections quite challenging and you may find the downhills seriously exciting or even scary. Even if you are used to cycling but live in relatively flat cities, the 3km uphill although on paved roads, will surely challenge you’re capabilities. The cycling course as approximately 1100meters of elevation gain. The run also includes an approximately 3.5km uphill and a total elevation gain of around 300 meters. Duathlon: Besides the swim, the Duathlon course follows the same route as the standard distance participants. Its not an easy course for most especially if you are not used to cycling on the trails. Please see Standard distance above for more details.

Team Relay: Same course and Standard distance with one team member completing one discipline.

5k Run: We are introducing this run from 2016. The main idea is to introduce an event in which visiting family members may like to participate it who are accompanying the triathletes. Also we hope to attract more locals to be part of the event by introducing this category.

10k run: 10k run basically follows the trail of standard distance. Its the mix of paved road and trails. The route takes you gradually uphill to approximately 300m half a way and slopes down back to finishline.
