The Buckhead Border Challenge will provide Kentuckiana multisport athletes a big-time event with a unique venue and amenities previously only found in the larger events outside of the region. The Buckhead Border Challenge will offer participants a challenging and memorable course along with unmatched professionalism in event management and customer service. The Buckhead Border Challenge will consist of an Olympic Distance Triathlon (1500 meter swim, 40K bike and 10K run) and a Sprint Distance Triathlon (approx. 400 meter swim, 20K bike, 5K run). There are also "Team Tri" (relay divisions) for the Olympic and Sprint distance triathlon (2 or 3 person). The event will take place Sunday, July 10, 2011. The Olympic Distance will begin at approximately 7:00 AM. There will be a wave start to be determined based on registration. The SPRINT Distance will go after all Olympic distance swimmers have finished (approximately 8:15 AM). A full start schedule once finalized will be posted at www.borderchallengetri.com.
This event will be sanctioned by USA Triathlon under the direction of a USAT Certified Race Director. All USAT rules will be enforced. Event is limited to ages 15 and over for ALL divisions. You must have a valid USA Triathlon Membership card or purchase a $10 One Day Membership.
There is also a kids triathlon on Saturday, July 9th and a kids triathlon camp July 4-8 to prepare them for the event. The kids triathlon and camp is open to children 5-14. More information is available at www.borderchallengetri.com.
The Bike | ||
The bike course will take participants through a scenic and fairly flat 12 mile loop (Olympic Distance will do 2 loops). The sprint distance is 20 kilometers and the Olympic distance is approximately 40 kilometers. This course will run along the Ohio River on the Jeffersonville side along Utica Pike. Expect great volunteer and police protection along the way. The Run The run course will take you across the 2nd Street Bridge into downtown Louisville and past the brand new KFC Yum Center, home to the University of Louisville Cardinals Basketball teams! While the sprint distance triathletes will make a quick turn around at the base of the bridge, the Olympic distance will pass under the bridge down to the river and run along the river on the famed Louisville River Walk on an out and back. Awards will be presented for both overall and age groups. Age groups are: 15-17, 18-20, 21-24, 25-29, 30-34, 35-39, 40-44, 45-49, 50-54, 55-59, 60+. There will also be awards for top finisher in each event from Indiana and Kentucky. There will be a fundraising challenge as well. We reserve the right to add and/or combine divisions at race directors discretion. |
