XTERRA Lory Triathlon on June 17th is the perfect kick off to the season for the seasoned off-road triathlete, or a great opportunity for the road triathlete wanting to try out a mountain bike triathlon for the first time.

The XTERRA Lory Triathlon features a 1/2 mile swim in the clear waters of Horsetooth Reservoir (Eltuk Bay), it's one of the most scenic swims in the state with canyon walls on both sides.  Then it's on to a 2-Lap (beginner friendly) 12.2 mile single-track bike over rolling terrain, and across valley bridges at Lory State Park.  Then you'll get to finish things off with a fun and challenging 4.8 mile (8k) run through the clouds on single-track trails!  This is the perfect off-road triathlon for beginners to experts. The course is designed so that anyone can have fun and everyone will be challenged!  Entries will be limited to 350 participants, and we sold out 2011-2016 in early April!

Course Information:

XTERRA LORY SWIM COURSE

The 1/2 mile long swim course for the XTERRA Lory Triathlon will take place in Horsetooth Reservoir, offering breathtaking views of the canyon walls on both sides of the reservoir.  Water temp ranges from 68-72 degrees.

Swim Set-up: The 1/2m swim course is an out and back shape, with the swimmers traveling in a counter clockwise direction.  Participants exit the water and follow the carpet all the way into the transition area.  When you register we'll ask for your predicted swim and mountain bike ability.  This info will allow us to place you in the correct swim wave so you're biking with athletes of the same ability level

XTERRA LORY BIKE COURSE (12.2 Miles)

The 2-Loop bike course for the XTERRA Lory Triathlon will take place inside of Lory State Park.  Pre-Riding is encouraged to become familiar with the terrain and course layout.

Bike Set-up: This bike course has a bit of everything, from rolling hills to multiple bridge crossings!  Get ready for some single track and more single track on this rolling and scenic course.  Overall the bike course is very beginner friendly.  Seasoned veterans don't despair,  the fast flowing nature is sure to test your engine and high speed technical skills.  Elites to First Timers all comment, "that was just fast and fun!".

Getting ready for the season: For those thinking of trying out the later season XTERRA at Aspen Valley, we recommend warming-up at Lory.  The series is designed to build throughout the Summer in terms of technical skills required.

XTERRA LORY RUN COURSE (5 Miles)

Grab your run shoes and get ready to race through the clouds!  The 5 mile run is an epic loop with amazing views of Lory State Park and Horsetooth Reservoir.  You leave transition to the north on windy single track then cross the main park road.  Once onto the Timber Trail the race heads towards the clouds for a 1.75m switchback ascent.  At the top take a minute to breath and look around, we promise your jaw will drop!  .5 mile of flat, then a screaming descent down Kimmons, followed by a flat last mile on the West Valley Trail.  Once you cross back over the road and shoot into Soldier Canyon you're almost there.

Don't slow down though because you're going to need a full head of steam for the double lane Slip n' Slide.  The best finish line in the sport, just remember to stay low and fast!  Aid stations are located at mile 3/4, mile 3.8, and 4.7.  We recommend bringing a Fuel Belt or running water bottle if the weather conditions are hot as there's no aid station at the peak of the climb!
