2017 Ironman 70.3 Muncie:
From boating, fishing and swimming to campground facilities, Prairie Creek Reservoir presents over 750 acres of land to explore. This beautiful park is located approximately five miles southeast of Muncie, south of the White River. During your stay, be sure to visit one of many local attractions such as the Muncie Children’s Museum, Cardinal Greenway, Minnetrista Cultural Center, and the White River Greenway. Scotty’s Brewhouse is a favorite local spot and has a diverse menu with something for everyone to enjoy.
Athletes will begin with a 1.2-mile swim in the calm waters of Prairie Creek Reservoir. The 56-mile bike course takes athletes onto closed state highways for a flat ride through rural Indiana. The race finishes with a challenging run around the south side of the reservoir over rolling country roads.
Course Information:
The 1,275 acre body of water will have an expected water temperature of 78 F. Due to the size of Prairie Creek Reservoir, the water temperature can change quickly race week so participants are advised to bring a wetsuit if they have one. The water is usually very calm, but heavy winds can cause the water to become slightly choppy.
Athletes can expect a very fast out-and-back bike course with 56 miles of closed state highways and country roads that wind through rural Delaware and Henry counties. The course hovers approx. 1,000 feet above sea level with less than a couple hundred feet of elevation change. Light winds usually favor athletes on the return trip.
After the fast out-and-back bike course athletes are treated to a competitive run around the south side of Prairie Creek Reservoir. The course continues over rolling hills that challenge athletes before finishing back at Prairie Creek Reservoir.
