About Sandman

8th annual Sandman Extreme for Excellence Half Marathon starts in downtown Wytheville, Va., snow or shine, at the recreation center on 4th Street. The run descends in the first mile to a crossing of Reed Creek at 2,100 feet elevation, before beginning a 4.5 mile climb to the top of Sand Mt. at 3,100'. The climb to the top is on hard surface road, with about 4 miles on packed gravel. A shorter 9 mile alternate run is available without the full climb. Winners in age categories will receive customized hour glasses. The event is a fundraiser for the Wythe County Public School Foundation for Excellence--we're all about excellence.

Pre-registration will close at midnight on Wednesday, January 11th. You must pre-register by that date to be guaranteed a long-sleeved t-shirt.

Awards

Awards will be given for Overall Male and Female for each the 9-mile and the 13.1 miles.

Awards will be given to 1^st, 2^nd and 3^rd in the following age groups for males and females, for both events:

19 and under

20-29

30-39

40-49

50-59

60 and over
