Heralded as one of Americas Best Lakes by USA TODAY in 2012, Lake Lure, North Carolina is home to the Lake Lure Olympiad Sports Festival. Athletes every year say it is the scenic beauty and abundance of welcoming volunteers that make the Olympiad experience truly special and unique.

Celebrating its 10-year anniversary in 2014, the Lake Lure Olympiad is a nonprofit organization that has given back nearly $250,000 to area charities. Hosted by Rumbling Bald Resort on Lake Lure and Chimney Rock State Park, with support from Rutherford Regional Health System, the races AND the views will take your breath away.

Course Information:

Swim The 750-meter lake swim commences on a sandy beach, curves around a buoy and finishes right at the transition area, which is within 50 feet of the lake. The clear mountain water is smooth as glass and should be close to 80 degrees in August. The lift scene from the movie "Dirty Dancing" was filmed here!

Bike The 22.3K bike course is challenging, but you will be rewarded with breathtaking views as it rolls through the countryside at the base of the Blue Ridge Mountains and finishes back at the same transition area.

Run The 5K run is a steady but reasonable uphill route that winds up a beautiful valley paralleling Bald Mountain Golf Course and ends with a gentle downhill cruise to a beachside finish.

Dirty Dancing Festival

We are happy to announce that the Lake Lure Olympiad is now hosted on the same weekend as the Dirty Dancing Festival (on the other side of Lake Lure)! The Dirty Dancing Festival celebrates its 5th anniversary in 2014, so if running, swimming or biking isnt enough, you can always dance! And dont forget, kids can compete and earn gold, silver, and bronze medals just like their parents at Saturdays Junior Olympiad!

3 Races in 3 Days Challenge

If one race is not enough of a challenge, then try the Lake Lure Olympiad's "3 Races in 3 Days Challenge."  Begin with the 10K Dam Run on Friday night, follow with the Lake Lure Triathlon on Saturday morning and close out the weekend atop magnificent Chimney Rock with the Race to the Rock.  This race offers you a choice of either a 25-mile bike or a 5K run, both of which end with a 7% grade incline three miles straight up to the top of Chimney Rock.
