Established in 1981, the Santa Barbara Triathlon is one of the longest running triathlons in the world. We expect another record year of participation with a full field of approximately 1900 athletes to come out and be a part of this exciting community event. The local support from the business community and the hundreds of volunteers that participate each year has afforded us the reputation as one of the best-organized triathlons in the country. Both elite athletes and first-time competitors are drawn to the Santa Barbara Triathlon for its temperate climate and beautiful scenery. Our field of participants includes mostly western-state athletes but international competitors and elites always show up to see how they match up against Santa Barbaras best.
Long Course competitors can expect a challenging one-mile ocean swim, followed by a demanding 34-mile bike combining flat, fast straight-aways paralleling the coast-line with rolling hills through Montecito and finally a ten-mile run featuring ocean views and tough inclines. The event's start, finish and transition areas are located at the historic East Beach Cabrillo Pavilion
