2013 Tarpon Rotary Sprint Triathlon:
The Tarpon Springs Triathlon is an annual favorite for seasoned as well as novice triathletes. For over 20 years this event has been presented by the Rotary Club of Tarpon Springs and helped raise funds for countless community projects, scholarships and more.
The 24th Annual Tarpon Triathlon will be directed by Rotary Club President and world class triathlete/duathlete Celia Dubey in combination with Xanadu Race Management and Suzanne Henslee, Race Director.
The Tarpon Triathlon is expected to be one of the premiere sprint distance tri's of the year! Registration opens THIS week and we expect to sell out to 600 this year. Don't wait to register on Active.com as the race is limited but the venue and event are the most spectacular in Florida triathlon.
Course Information:
The quarter mile swim in an easy out and back off the west central intercostal waterway in Tarpon Springs. The bike route sends you through the downtown streets of beautiful and historic Tarpon with a turns and technical strategies that are great for newer triathletes as well as those that have enjoyed the scenery of this race for years. The 5K run takes you through the hard packed trails of Fred Howard Park just after the scenic route across Fred Howard causeway closed just for our triathletes...we refer to it as a run with, "water on both sides!" I hope you won't miss this once in a life time race experience. The Rotary Club of Tarpon Springs puts on one of the best post race parties with authentic Greek food, homemade cookies and free beer to all participants. Awards go 5 deep in all standard age groups and you won't be disappointed at the unique awards indigenous to the nature of historic Tarpon Springs where the economy thrives on the tourism by age old traditions of sponge diving, shells, and one of the strongest Greek communities in Florida. If you haven't visited the Tarpon Springs Sponge Docks, it's a do not miss while you're in town for the Triathlon!
Directions:
Tarpon Springs is in western Florida, 27 miles south of Spring Hill, and 25 miles northwest of Tampa.
- Fred Howard Park is located West of Tarpon Springs.
- Take Alt. 19 to Klosterman Road.
- Go West on Klosterman.
- Follow the signs to the parking and race start/finish line.
- The race will start at precisely 7:30 AM. (arrive early)
