    SPRINT COURSE:

    Swim for sprint is 750 meters - in water start.
    • Expected water temperature around 78 to 84 degrees.  Wetsuits allowed and optional if water temperature is 78 degrees or less taken on race morning.  Come prepared with a wetsuit just in case. 
    • Swim Cut Off Rule.  All participants are expected to be able to complete the swim discipline maintaining a steady consistent stroke and able to maintain on course.  Lifeguards are provided for emergency situations and to prevent swimmers from drowning.  Any swimmer who is in constant need of aid from lifeguards along the swim is considered to be a hazard to themselves and other swimmers and has not prepared properly for the race (this includes breaks, and redirection on course).  If a lifeguard at any point feels an athlete is taking too much attention, the lifeguard reserves the right to remove the athlete from the race.  This removal will result in a DNF (Did Not Finish) from the entire race (the athlete will not be allowed to compete in the bike or run) at which point athlete must hand in their timing chip to lifeguard or designated staff person. 
    • Start at public boat dock and finish at the southeast corner of the park.

    Bike for sprint is 17.7 miles - rolling hills.

    • Exit Transition area onto Walnut Street
    • Turn right onto S. Main Street
    • S. Main Street becomes Route 272 South
    • Turnaround on Route 272 (at about 5 mile mark)
    • Travel on Route 272 North
    • Turn right onto McKinneytown Road
    • New in 2013 for a safer course - continue straight onto McKenneytown Road towards Old Field Pt. Road (do not turn left onto Old Neck Road)
    • Turn left onto Old Field Pt. Road
    • Turn left onto Old Chestnut Road (INTERNATIONAL continue straight onto Old Field Pt. Road)
    • Turn left onto Old Elk Neck Road
    • Turn right onto Irishtown Road
    • Turn right (into left lane) onto Route 272
    • Turn left onto Walnut Street back to transition

    Run for sprint course is 3.1 miles (out and back).  Stay to the left of each other throughout run.

    • Exit Transition area onto Cherry Street
    • Right onto Route 272 (stay along shoulder on the west side of road at all times)
    • Runners should stay to the left of each other on this out and back segment of the course.
    • Sprint turn around is at the Little League Fields

      • INTERNATIONAL stay straight at Old Field Pt. Road (SPRINT turn LEFT onto Old Chestnut Road)
      • Turn Left onto Jonas Chapel Road
      • Turn Left onto Old Elk Neck Road
      • Turn Right onto Irishtown Road
      • Turn Right (into left lane) onto Route 272
      • Turn Left onto Walnut Street back to transition

      Run for sprint course is 6.2 miles (out and back).  Stay to the left of each other throughout run.

      • Exit Transition area onto Cherry Street
      • Right onto Route 272 (stay along shoulder on the west side of road at all times)
      • Runners should stay to the left of each other on this out and back segment of the course.
      • Continue straight and past the Sprint turn around which is at the Little League Fields 
      • International turn around is at 3.1 mile mark

    Directions:

    Take 95 (north or south) to exit 100 (Route 272 South) in Cecil County, MD.  Follow Route 272 South for 2 miles to the town of North East.
  • Remain on 272 South for another .5 miles until you reach Church St.
  • Turn LEFT onto Church Street to race parking lots.
