The 14th edition of this event takes place at the beautiful Aurora Reservoir.  Est. in 2000 this Colorado classic provides the community a challenging, affordable, and competitive race with a local flavor.  Whether this is your final event of the season, or a tune-up for a fall Ironman, don't miss the Harvest Moon!  The Aquabike portion is one of the fastest growing Aquabikes in the nation.  The Duathlon is Colorado's only long-course duathlon.
One of the biggest expos, stocked goodie bags, and event sweatshirts are just some of the highlights.  When you cross that line make sure to sprint because there's no better way to cool off that the Without Limits Slip n' Slide!  The Harvest Moon Half truly is where Colorado comes to race.  The Harvest Moon Long Coure Triathlon is the 4th stop on the Colorado Triathlon Tour! 

Triathlon: The Harvest Moon is a 1.2 mile swim in the crystal clear waters of Aurora Reservoir, a 56 mile rolling country ride featuring the "Roller Coaster" on the home stretch, and a scenic 13.1 mile run capped off with a Slip n' Slide Finish!  The Harvest Moon is Colorado's longest running and most affordable Half.  
Why the small 600 cap?  Easy, we want to maintain a fun, laid back, yet competitive race atmosphere.  To us you're more than a number and we want every athlete experience to be the best it can possibly be, whether it's your 1st Half or 10th year racing!  So mark you calendars for September 8th, 2013.  The Harvest Moon Half truly is where Colorado comes to race. 

Duathlon: The Harvest Moon Duathlon is a 5K (3.1 mile) run, 56 mile bike, 13.1 mile run event. Duathletes will all begin in the same wave after all of the swimmers have entered the water. An aid station will be set up at the finish of the 5K Run. Following the opening run, racers will then follow the same bike and second run courses as the triathletes. There will be one aid station at mile-3 of the first 5K run. The first 5k is rolling terrain with a mix of hard packed trail and wide cement running paths with a dirt shoulder.  The Harvest Moon, Colorados only long-course duathlon, attracts 100 athletes every year competing for great prizes and raffles from our sponsors!
The Duathlon wave will take off at 7:30.  Between us you have the hardest event of the day having to run twice, so we'd like to get you out of the sun before the heat of the day!  Plus you'll hit the post race buffet and massage tent that much sooner!

Aquabike: The Harvest Moon Aquabike is the hottest growing segment of the Long Course Festival and has quickly become one of the largest long course aquabike's in the nation.  The Aquabike (1.2m Swim / 56m Bike) will be the final swim wave to take off.  After finishing the 56 mile bike all athletes will rack their bikes and exit transition as if starting the run, 200 meters into the run course athletes will turn off into the finish line.  All returning athletes, YES, the Slip n' Slide finish line is back!  Aquabike athletes will be the first to the massage tent, first to the food tent, and we'll start awards at 1:30pm.  All aquabike athletes will be able to remove their bike from transition area after 12:30pm.  The Harvest Moon, Colorados only long-course aquabike, attracts 150 athletes every year competing for great prizes and raffles from our sponsors!

Course Information:


SWIM: Swimmers will complete a 1.2 mile Out-and back swim route in the Aurora Reservoir, starting on the right side of the beach and finishing on the left, the run up to the transition area is fully carpeted. The start will be in waves which will be posted at packet pick-up locations and on our website 1 week before the event.  Water temperature in the reservoir in September is typically in the high sixties, so wetsuits are encouraged. Water temperature in 2012 was 70 degrees.

BIKE: Riders will complete a 56 mile course, with an out-and-back spur located in the first half of the course. The route will follow rural country roads that are open to light local traffic. The route covers a mix of hilly terrain and long flats through the farm & ranch country of eastern Colorado. The start/finish will be the hilliest part of the course.
NOTICE FROM STATE PATROL: Pre-riding the course is fine, however you must follow the rules of the road. Pack riding that impedes auto traffic is not allowed. Rolling through stop signs is not allowed. Riders who are caught violating these rules will be ticketed by State Patrol, and we will not allow you to start the race - entry fees will not be refunded. Please follow the rules or it will jeopardize our ability to continue holding this event.
BIKE AID STATIONS: There will be 3 water bottle hand-ups on the bike course stocked with chilled water and Gatorade drink. Please discard all empty bottles at these zones only. Aid stations will be located approximately at miles 11, 30, and 45. These locations are equally spaced by the time it will take to ride between them, based on terrain and normal wind direction.
COURSE DIRECTIONS: Head out on Aurora Reservoir down Powhaton, right on Quincy
(turn-around is the top of a long gradual climb), head back down Quincy, right on Watkins
rd, Right on HW 36, right on Kiowa-Bennett Road, right on Quincy, Left back to Aurora Reservoir

RUN: The 13.1 mile run course is a winding route on the bike path that wraps around the Aurora Reservoir. The run will be an out and back format, with aid stations at each mile. The terrain is flat to gently rolling, with some hills near the beginning and end. The course is completely closed to motor vehicles and follows a mix of dirt roadways, concrete, and asphalt bike paths. The run leaves the back corner of the upper parking lot and travels counter clockwise around the lake to a turn-around point on the dam, and then returns via the same route to finish near the pavilion at Aurora Reservoir swim beach.
AID STATIONS:  Will be located at each mile of the run. Each aid station will be stocked with: Ice Cold Water, Gatorade drink, CLIF Gel, flat coke, pretzels, cookies, and CLIF Bars
NEW in 2013:  Each aid station will have a Beljum Budder squeeze pump along with Sunblock!  It's get's hot out there and sometimes the chamois cream and sun block you put on at 7:00am just isn't enough
First-Aid station will be located at the turn-around.

Directions:

BOULDER/FT. COLLINS:  Take I-70 E towards DIA.  Then take exit 282 for I-225 South to exit 4 for S. Parker Rd. Take a Left on Quincy and follow all the way out to the turn-off to Aurora Reservoir (S. Powhaton Rd.).  On Quincy you'll pass the fairgrounds on your right and then you'll take a right on S. Powhaton rd. Continue straight for 1.8 miles and you'll be directed by a professional parking crew.

S. DENVER/COLORADO SPRINGS:  The fastest and most direct way is to take I-25 north to E-470 towards Grand Junction/Limon.  Take exit 13 for Quincy Ave. and head east.  2 miles later you'll take a right on S. Powhaton rd.  Continue straight for 1.8 miles and you'll be directed by a professional parking crew.
