Tour of California 2017: Rafal Majka wins stage 2 and takes the leader’s jersey from Kittel

Rafal Majka

Pole Rafal Majka was able to win stage two of Tour of California the other day by fighting strong among other champions. He left behind New Zealand’s George Bennett finishing the hilly stage faster than anyone else and earned the yellow jersey.

He finally took the leader’s jersey from Marcel Kittel who won stage one of Tour of California. Majka and Bennet were clearly the superior ones during the second stage forming occasional breakaways along the hilly route.

Even though Kittel is one of the most favorable competitors to win the 583-mile, seven-day race, it seems Majka and Bennet are also strongly aiming for the big prize.

The today’s stage

In the today’s stage three, the race continues with a ride from Pismo Beach and ends in Morro Bay. It is a 119.6-mile ride that also includes a 6,400 feet of elevation gain.

This is the first time that Amgen Tour of California is staged as part of World Tour! That is why, this 12th edition of this tour aimed to attract more and more famous and top international cycling names especially from the European countries.

This year, the Tour of California is being held in the same period of time as the Giro d’Italia. That is why, unfortunately, California’s tour has not been able to attract the names it was hoping to. This also due to the fact 2017 marks the 100th anniversary of Giro d’Italia.  The Tour of California ends in Pasadena on May 20.
