“As the team leader that I am, Landa is well received,” Quintana welcomes Landa to Movistar

Mikel Landa will officially join Movistar for next season and he already knows who’s the team leader. In case he had any second thoughts about the leading position at 2018 Tour de France and not only, his new teammate, Nairo Quintana has removed all of his doubts.
During an interview with El Pais, a Spanish newspaper, Quintana made it very clear who’s the Movistar’s leader for next season.
“Eusebio (the Movistar manager) made the signing, and everyone will have their place,” Quintana declared. “As the team leader that I am, Landa is well received.
“For us it is a great help. Mostly in races that I had to do to satisfy the team and the sponsor. Before I had to be there and now there will be one more person covering those kinds of races.
“That means that I will be in the most important races that I believe will get me in good condition to the Tour.”

No leading position available

Since June, there have been many speculations indicating that Landa would join Movistar from team Sky. Especially to lead the team through the biggest tour, Tour de France.

However, his move was finally official a month ago and it seems, no leading position is available for him.
When Quintana was asked whether he has met his new teammate or not, he said: “We have not had the chance [to talk] yet, but in a meeting we will talk to Eusebio and Alejandro as well,” Quintana continued.
“We are happy and calm. We know that Landa is a guy who will contribute a lot to the team.”
