Paris, Tour de France 2018: Geraint Thomas celebrates his victory with style

After Geraint Thomas sealed overall victory during yesterday’s 21st stage, he has today celebrated his much-deserved victory in style holding a glass of champagne while accompanied by his friends and family.

On the other hand, the Champs-Elysees stage was won by Alexander Kristoff.

Thomas crossed the finish line right ahead of four-time Tour de France winner and his teammate Chris Froome to confirm his victory at one minute and 51 seconds over Tom Dumoulin and Froome 33 seconds back.

The third Briton

Thomas has now become the third rider from Britain to have ever won the Tour de France after starting the race outside of the favourites’ list and not being a team leader.

Even though Thomas admitted that he was riding for his leader Froome, after leading the four-time Tour champion for more than one minute and even further after stage 17, Geraint admitted he was then handed the leadership of the squad.

“The real defining moment was when he had his bad day (on stage 17), but at the same time I was always allowed my own freedom,” Thomas said.

“It wasn’t like I had to work for him as a domestique. Obviously the guys were riding for Froomey and I just stayed with them. I was the back-up leader and if I was good, I was good and I would stay in front.”

Giro d’Italia route for 2019 is finally revealed and we couldn’t be happier with it. Froome also agrees with us saying that the 102nd route of next season’s Giro is definitely an “explosive” one.   Giro d’Italia 2019 ? Week 1 ? Stages 1 > 9 ? 11th-19th May…
