Joanna Brown is the official winner of the Ottawa’s elite triathlon competition held this weekend. Brown is now headed to the World Championships that will take place in Germany.
She was able to earn a well-deserved top time in the women’s elite triathlon race in Ottawa taking another strong and secure step towards her long carrier and plan to become an Olympian.
“That was a really, really hard race, but I’m really happy with the way it turned out.”- said Brown after crossing the finish line of the women’s final of the elite Canadian Triathlon Championships during the Ottawa International Triathlon at Dow’s Lake on June 18.
She crossed the finish line in 59:46.8. Second place was held by Paula Findlay from Edmonton with a time of 01:00:14.5, while third place went to Tamara Gorman from the United States with a time of 01:01:19.3.

A tough year…
This victory wasn’t the first time during 2017 Brown was showing a great performance. She was also able to secure two World Cup medals a couple of months ago; convincing everyone she is back on track despite suffering setbacks and injuries in the last couple of years.
“I really surprised myself on the bike,” – added Brown. “I was able to break away with Paula Findlay. And she is such a strong cyclist, so I just did my best to contribute as much as I could to our breakaway.”
Now, Brown will start training for her next big participation in the World Triathlon Series. It will take place later this year, on July, in Hamburg, Germany. This participation will set Brown’s sights on qualifying for the 2020 and 2024 Olympic Games.
“I’d like to go for two Olympic cycles and just see how it rolls”, – Brown, who has been dreaming for the Olympics for many years now, said. “As long as I love it and as long as I love competing, I’m going to keep racing.”
