Giro d’Italia 2018: Fabio Aru to lead UAE Team Emirates

This year’s Giro d’Italia will see Fabio Aru lead the UAE Team Emirates’ men who will start the individual time trial 9.7km stage on May 4, Jerusalem.

This is certainly a big deal for Aru considering the fact Giro is known to be the second most important cycling event in the world coming right after Tour de France and followed by Vuelta a Espana.

A Real Climbing challenge

Aru, 27, who took second at 2015’s Giro, is ready to showcase his best climbing skills while being supported by an experienced, dedicated team which includes Valerio Conti, Marco Marcato and Diego Ullisi.

“Fabio is going to the Giro d’Italia with a huge desire to make an impact. This feeling of strong sentiment towards the Corsa Rosa will allow him to give his best in every situation. At his side are a group of riders who share the same emotions. They are able to manage the possible scenarios correctly,” UAE Team Emirates General Manager, Giuseppe Saronni, stated.

“Four Italians in our team give this roster a strong local flavour to honour the Giro d’Italia and give the most attention to our fifth Italian Fabio Aru. The three non-Italians Atapuma, Laengen and Polanc have shown their love for this race and their ability to contribute to the group.”

“Let’s not forget that these riders know about success, just think of the six stage wins by Ulissi, two by Polanc and three by Aru.”

Giro d’Italia route for 2019 is finally revealed and we couldn’t be happier with it. Froome also agrees with us saying that the 102nd route of next season’s Giro is definitely an “explosive” one.   Giro d’Italia 2019 ? Week 1 ? Stages 1 > 9 ? 11th-19th May…
