Gilbert to return to cycling this weekend

Philippe Gilbert

The Belgium cycling champion, Philippe Gilbert seems to have been completely recovered from his kidney tear a while ago. The great news came from his Quick Step team members back on Wednesday. Gilbert is now ready to return to his teammates and his bike and give his best as before.

The Tour of Flanders winner injured his kidney a week ago and was ruled out from Giro d’Italia next month after his doctors announced him to at least take two full weeks and rest. But yesterday, his Quick Step members made public some great news from Gilbert’s doctors who were able to give him the green light and start training again.

Even though the Quick Step team gave no additional information whether Gilbert would still participate in Giro d’Italia or not, they will soon publish his racing schedule.

Next appearance

Gilbert will make his appearance at the “Tom Says Thanks” event in the weekend with some other cycling stars.

Gilbert had to spent a couple of nights in hospital due to his kidney issue. Earlier this month, on April 16, he won the Amstel Gold one-day classic.
