According to Bernard Hinault, Team Sky champion should have never had the opportunity to compete at this season’s Giro d’Italia tour after what happened with the four-time Tour de France winner and his adverse analytical finding case which is still under investigation.
Apperatnly, Hinault thinks that Froome’s anti-doping battle should have left him out of the road for as long as UCI makes a final decision and determines the true story about why Giro d’italia champion’s urine indicated twice the allowed amount of an asthma drug during last year’s Vuelta which took place on September.
Three consecutive Grand Tours
After last week’s victory, Froome joined the three-man group that includes Hinault and Eddy Merckx and became the third rider in the cycling history to have ever won three consecutive Grand tours.
Now, Hinault doesn’t want Froome’s name and reputation uttered alongside his.
“Froome does not belong on that list. He should never have been allowed to start in the Giro. Why do we have to wait so long for a verdict? With what right does Froome get so much time to find an explanation? Is it because Sky has so much money?” Hinault, 63, said.
On the other hand, Froome continues to strongly deny any wrongdoing and is fighting to clean his name and be able to become part of his fifth Tour de France performance which will take place in July.
“It’s a very complex case, with a lot of lawyers, a lot of documents, a lot of money. We will make our decision as soon as possible but we have no time. Everything is more complicated than usual in this case,” David Lappartient, UCI president said about Froome’s case being solved before this year’s Tour de France.
