Asana’s rider, Jakob Fuglsang managed to take the overall victory of the Criterium du Dauphine tour after winning the final stage 8 a couple of hours ago.
Unfortunately, Chris Froome watched Fuglsang win while he lost the title for the fourth time. Team Sky’s Froome, the three-time Tour de France winner began around one minute behind the current leader, Richie Porte, he was unable to overpass the gap.
The one to surpass Porte was the Denmark’s Fuglsang whose overall win aided by a time bonus for winning the 8th stage. It seems Froome’s luck was playing games making him lose position and taking the fourth place on the overall classification after Ireland’s Dan Martin took the second place, leaving Porte and Froome behind.
Astana rider, Fulsgang, was able to finish the 115 km route one minute and 15 seconds faster than BMC’s Porte. Fulsgang also got a 10-second time bonus for winning the stage, leaving Porte out on his first Dauphine title.
Nicolas Portal, Team Sky sporting director, said Froome would have more to offer at Tour de France.
He added: “We came here to try to win, and we saw Richie was super strong, and now we can see Fuglsang was clearly very strong too. Froomey is on the way up, step by step to the Tour. For sure he’s going to progress. He finished the race really well here, making some hard attacks and some long pulls.”
